USC Track & Field To Compete At Mt. SAC Relays This Week

Both the men's and women's teams enter the week ranked No. 2 in the country
The USC Track and Field team will be competing at the Mt. SAC Relays held at Hilmer Lodger Stadium in Walnut, Calif.on April 18-19. Additionally, Falyn Lott will compete in the women's multi-events competiton on Apri. 16-17. Both the men's and women's teams enter this week ranked No. 2. The USC men currently own five of the top 13 100m dash times among NCAA runners, while the women's team claims three of the top 10 times.
TRAVELING TROJANS:Â The USC track and field program is scheduled to send 49 athletes to the Mt. SAC Relays this week:

THAT'S A LOTT OF EVENTS: Freshman Falyn Lott competed in her first college heptathlon at Mt. SAC on April 16. Lott was bothered by a sore hip flexor throughout the competition and pulled out in the 200m, the last event of the first day. Going into that event, Lott was fifth in the Women's Elite "B" competition with 2,385 points, the top total by a collegian. She had a time of 14.20 (-1.2) in the 100m hurdles, a season-best high jump of 5-7.75 (1.72m) and a shot put PR of 34-2.00 (10.41m). Lott has a personal best of 5,058 in the heptathlon and placed sixth in the event with 4,882 points at the 2023 USATF U20 Championships.Â
THINGS ARE BRIGHT WITH WHYTE: USC sophomore Madison Whyte won both the 200m and 400m at the Texas A&M 44 Farms Team Invitational on April 11-12. Whyte won the 200m on April 11 with an outdoor world-leading and NCAA-leading time of 22.32. That time set the meet and facility record, as well as moving her into a third-place tie on USC's all-time 200m list. The next day Whyte won the 400m dash and matched her PR of 50.91. That time ranks second on the NCAA descending order list. Both times are Big Ten leading times. Whyte also anchored USC's 4x400m relay which won on April 12 with a time of 3:29.61, which ranks second in the Big Ten this season and sixth in the country.
BRODERICK BREAKS USC RECORD WITH FIRST TOSS OF THE SEASON : USC sophomore Racquil Broderick set the USC men's discus throw record with his first throw of the season of 207-0 (63.09m) to win at the Trojan Invitational on March 21. He broke the longest-standing USC men's record of 206-0 (62.78m) set by Gary Carlsen in 1967, 58 years ago. Carlsen was at the meet to congratulate Broderick and present him with a small statue of a Greek discus thrower. Broderick also had a mark of 206-4 (62.90m) at the Triton Invitational on April 5 which also was have beaten the previous school record.
ERASMUS ERASES USC SHOT PUT RECORD: Freshman Ashley Erasmus set the USC freshman women's shot put record with her second throw of the season of 56-10 (17.32m), then broke the school record with a mark of 58-5.75 (17.82m) in her third attempt at the Trojan Invitational on March 22. Her shot put mark currently ranks eighth among all NCAA throwers. Erasmus has won all four shot put competitions she has competed in this season and leads all Big Ten throwers. Erasmus also had a PR of 176-11 (53.92m) in the discus throw at the Texas A&M 44 Farms Invitational on April 12 to move into a seventh-place tie on USC's all-time list in the event.
DYNAMIC DUAL-THREAT DUO: Trojan junior JC Stevenson and senior Johnny Brackins Jr. both earned indoor All-America honors in two events. Stevenson placed sixth in the 60m dash and sixth in the long jump. He set the USC 60m dash record with a time of 6.46 in the NCAA Indoor Championships semifinals. He also led the country with an indoor long jump of 26-9.75 (8.17m). Brackins Jr. placed fourth in the 60m hurdles and eighth in the long jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships. During the indoor season he set the USC record of 7.43 in the 60m hurdles and ranked No. 4 in the long jump. He also placed third in the 60m hurdles at the USATF Indoor Championships with his PR of 7.43. Brackins Jr. is expected to open up outdoors at the Dual Meet.
MIDSEASON REINFORCEMENTS:Â The USC track and field program added a pair of Nebraska transfer this semester in Garrett Kaalund and Brithton Senior. Â The junior Kaalund jumped in late in the indoor season to help lead USC to the NCAA team title by placing fourth in the 200m and fourth as part of the 4x400m relay. Kaalund competed individually for the first time during the indoor season at the Big Ten Championships and placed second in the 200m with a time of 20.67 on March 1. That time matched his indoor PR, also run in the prelims on Feb. 28. He opened his outdoor season with a 200m PR and NCAA-leading time of 20.05 (+1.4) at the Battle on the Bayou on March 28. Â The senior hurdler Senior has personal bests of 7.66 in the 60m hurdles, 13.54 in the 110m hurdles and 53.16 in the 400m hurdles. Â His best time in the 110m hurdles so far in the outdoor season is 13.69 (+3.4w).
