2024: John earned a bronze medal for Great Britain at the Paris Olympics in the women’s 4x400m relay, running the leadoff leg in the semifinals. She also placed third in the 400m with a time of 51.23 at the U.K. Championships on June 30. John reached the NCAA semifinals in the 400m and as part of USC’s 4x400m relay. She took second in the 400m with a time of 51.85 at the Pac-12 Championships on May 12. She competed in six indoor meets, placing sixth in the 400m with a time of 51.97 at the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 9. She posted an indoor 400m PR of 51.74 at the Razorback Invitational on Jan. 27, which bettered her fifth-place standing on USC’s all-time indoor 400m list. She also ran the third leg for USC’s 4x400m relay which ran the fourth-fastest time in school history of 3:27.62 to place second at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
2023: John won two medals at the 2023 World Athletics Championship, first she earned a silver medal as the anchor for Great Britain’s mixed 4x400m relay which ran 3:11.19 to set a national record and then earned a bronze medal as part of Great Britain’s women’s 4x400m relay. Earlier in the summer John won the European U23 Championships 400m title with a PR of 51.04 which ranks ninth on USC’s all-time outdoor list. She also placed third in the 400m with a time of 51.61 at the British Athletics Championships on July 9. She placed 12th in the 400m at the NCAA Championships to earn second-team All-America honors with a time of 51.42 on June 8. She originally set the USC freshman 400m record of 50.20 in the NCAA Quarterfinals, which teammate Christine M. Mallard surpassed during the summer. John also placed third in the 400m (52.52) at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet and fifth in the 400m (51.83) at the Pac-12 Championships…she also ran the second leg for USC’s 4x400m relay which won the Pac-12 title. During the indoor season, she placed ninth in the 400m at the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 9 to earn second-team All-America honors with a USC freshman record time of 51.90.
HIGH SCHOOL: John is a 2021 graduate of Trinity Catholic HS in London, England. She then spent a year attending the University of Nottingham, but they did not have a track team, so she did not compete. John won the gold medal in the 400m at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Colombia with a PR of 51.50. Her time was the second-fastest recorded time ever by a British U20 woman, trailing only Linsey MacDonald’s 51.16 run in 1980…John also ran 52.42 in the heats and 51.72 in the semifinals. She also has a personal best of 23.86 in the 200m. She ran on Britain’s 4x400m relay team which placed fifth at the 2022 World Indoor Championships in Belgrade. John placed sixth in the 400m with an indoor PR of 53.05 at the 2022 UK Indoor Championships on Feb. 27.PERSONAL: Yemi was born on May 3, 2003 in Italy. Her parents are Christopher Olanrewaju John and Gabriella Faciotti John. Her father is Nigerian and her mother is Italian.
