2021: McClain, a wide receiver who showed promise in 2019 before suffering a mid-season knee injury and then also missed the 2020 season, will compete to be a key part of the wideout corps as a sophomore in 2021.
2020: McClain was suspended from the team in 2020 fall camp and did not participate as a sophomore in 2020.
2019: McClain showed promise as a first-year freshman wide receiver in 2019 before suffering a mid-season injury. Overall in 2019 while appearing in 5 games (Stanford, BYU, Washington, Notre Dame, Arizona), he had 3 catches for 19 yards (6.3 avg). He had 2 catches for 10 yards against Stanford and a 9-yard reception against Arizona. He tore ligaments in his left knee while making a catch against Arizona and missed the season’s final 6 games, then had surgery.
HIGH SCHOOL: He made 2018 PrepStar All-Western Region and Orange County Register All-Orange County second team as a senior wide receiver at JSerra Catholic High in San Juan Capistrano (Calif.). He had 40 receptions for 659 yards (16.5 avg) with 10 TDs in 2018, although he missed the first half of the season while recovering from a 2017 knee injury.
As a junior in 2017, he 19 catches for 390 yards (20.5 avg) with 4 TDs and also had an 11-yard kickoff return before suffering a mid-season knee injury. Current Trojan Peter Esparza and incoming Trojan Mason Murphy also prepped at JSerra Catholic.
He also played basketball at JSerra Catholic.
PERSONAL: He is a sociology major at USC. His brother, Abdul-Malik, was an outside linebacker at USC (2019-20). His grandfather, Lawrence Williams, played basketball at UNLV and then as an All-Conference player on the 1977 Texas Southern team that won the NAIA championship.
