No. 6 USC Takes Fourth At Western Intercollegiate

Kaito Onishi, Cameron Henry tie for fifth to lead Trojans.
Sophomore Kaito Onishi and freshman Cameron Henry tied for fifth while senior Justin Suh tied for seventh as the No. 6 USC men's golf team finished fourth at the Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo G.C. in Santa Cruz, Calif., on Wednesday (April 17).
The Trojans closed out the regular season at 2-over 1052 (348-357-347), 12 shots back of first-place Stanford and six back of second-place California. Host San Jose State was a shot better than USC.
The Trojans, who were led Wednesday by sophomore Issei Tanabe's 2-under 68, pulled to within four strokes of the lead in the final round but were unable to complete the comeback.
Onishi (69-67-70) and Henry (66-69-71) tied for fifth at 4-under 206, four back of first. Onishi had three birdies and an eagle in the final round to secure his fifth top 10 this year and third in the top 5.
Henry, in his collegiate debut this week while playing individually, remained as consistent as in his first two rounds and finished with four birdies today, including one on his final hole.
Suh tied for seventh at 3-under 207 (64-74-79), posting his team-best 17th round in the 60s today in his seventh top 10 effort of the season and ninth time tying for 15th or better in as many starts.
Senior Sam Kim continued his solid spring surge with a tie for 15th at 1-over 211 (66-74-71). He notched a pair of birdies today in his second top 20 result this semester.
Freshman Charlie Reiter tied for 26th at 4-over 214 (75-68-71) with five birdies today while Tanabe tied for 42nd at 6-over 216 (74-74-68).
Junior Ryan Slater tied for 54th at 10-over 220 (74-76-70) which included a hole in one on the par 3 7th hole. Junior Kyle Suppa tied for 63rd at 13-over 223 (75-79-69).
The Pac-12 Championships begin Monday in Eugene, Ore., as USC tries to defend its 2018 title.
