Ellis, the senior captain, recorded eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Kobe Johnson scored 12 of his 16 points in the second half and grabbed eight boards. Joshua Morgan added 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting while blocking five shots.
The win marked a sweep for USC in the Hall of Fame Series Las Vegas after the No. 21 Women of Troy upset. No. 7 Ohio State, 83-74, in the first session of the day-long event.
After conceding three free throws to Kansas State to start the game, Collier's and-one play and a layup highlighted a 14-2 run that gave the Trojans their lead that stood the rest of the night.
The Wildcats (0-1) paced with the Trojans for most of the first half, but Ellis scored seven points in a 9-2 near the end of the period to give USC a 40-30 lead at the intermission.
USC steadily built its lead to as much as 18 points with 10:08 remaining in the game, but a 15-4 spurt from Kansas State threatened the Trojans' lead in the final minutes. Ellis' two free throws and layup followed by Johnson's fastbreak dunk sealed the game for the Trojans.
