Bio
BREAKDOWN: Junior Kobe Johnson is a 6-6, 200-pound wing who can fill up a stat sheet, is an excellent passer and strong defender. The versatile guard took a big jump forward in his second season in the USC program. He is one of the Trojans’ captains for the second consecutive season.
2022-23: Johnson played in all 33 games, making 29 starts, and averaged 9.2 points and 5.0 rebounds. He was named to the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team. Johnson led USC with 72 steals, second among Pac-12 players and tied for 17th nationally. His 72 steals tied him for third on USC’s all-time single-season steals list. Johnson was third on USC with 85 assists and led the team with an 84.1 shooting percentage from the free throw line, which was second among all Pac-12 players. He scored a then career-high 17 points to lead USC back from an 11-point deficit in the win vs. Oregon State on Dec. 4...he also made 3 three-pointers and had 5 steals. He scored 10 points and had a career-high 6 steals in the win vs. Auburn on Dec. 18. Scored a career-high 21 points with 5 assists and 4 steals vs. Washington on Feb. 4...went 9-for-9 from the FT line. Scored 16 points and matched a career-high with 8 rebounds and had 2 steals vs. Arizona State in the Pac-12 Quarterfinal on March 9. He scored 13 points, had 4 assists and a career-high 9 rebounds in USC’s NCAA Tournament game vs. Michigan State on March 17.
2021-22: Johnson played in 27 games and averaged 1.2 points and 1.0 rebounds. He played double figures in minutes in seven of the final 14 games in which he appeared. Went 3-for-3 from the free throw line in his collegiate debut vs. CSUN on Nov. 9. Scored three points, had three rebounds and a team-leading and season-best five assists vs. Arizona State on Jan. 24. Had five steals in 12 minutes of action at Oregon State on Feb.24. Scored a season-best 7 points and matched a season-high with 19 minutes played vs. UCLA in the Pac-12 semifinal on March 11. He played four minutes in USC’s NCAA Tournament first-round game against Miami on March 18.
HIGH SCHOOL: Johnson graduated from Nicolet HS in Glendale, Wisc. In 2021. As a senior he averaged 26.7 points, 10.4 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.4 steals per game. He led Nicolet to a 14-10 record and was named to the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association (WCBA) Division II All-State team as a junior and senior. As a junior, he led his team to a 21-3 record, while averaging 19.5 points, 8.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.1 steals. He was also named to the WBCA Division II All-State team. As a sophomore, he was a starter on a Nicolet team that went 27-1 and won the Division II Wisconsin State Championship for the first time in school history. He left Nicolet with the single-season scoring record and second on the school’s all-time scoring list.
PERSONAL: Kobe was born on January 15, 2003 in Milwaukee, Wisc…His parents are Stacy and Roderick Johnson Jr and he has three brothers, Rod and Jalen Johnson and Rodez Watson…Rod played basketball at Chattanooga and Western Illinois and Jalen was on the Nicolet High state title team in 2019 and went on to play at Duke during the 2020-21 season before declaring for the 2021 NBA Draft and being selected No. 20 overall by Atlanta…His father played basketball at Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Southeast Missouri State before playing professionally two seasons in Poland…His mother also played collegiately at Wisconsin-Milwaukee…Johnson lists Will Smith and Kevin Hart as his favorite actors and Bruno Mars and Chris Breezy as his favorite musical artists…Likes any Marvel movies…His sports hero is Floyd “Money” Mayweather…Is a Communication major at USC.
