USC Women's Rowing Defeated by Reigning NCAA Champion Washington at Las Vegas Collegiate Rowing Invitational

LAS VEGAS -- The No. 18 ranked USC women's rowing team began the 2020 season with the Las Vegas Collegiate Rowing Invitational, where they took on the reigning NCAA champions, the Washington Huskies on Lake Las Vegas on Saturday (Feb. 29). USC placed second to Washington in the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight and the Varsity Four (but finshed ahead of Washington's 2V4+ boat).

"We want to thank Jim Andersen and the Lake Las Vegas Rowing Club for hosting this regatta," said head coach Josh Adam. "It is such a great venue with a wonderful group of people putting on this quality event.
"We had a great opportunity to race the defending national champion, Washington. Out speed is still developing, and it is clear we have a lot of work to do in all of our boats. But here at USC, we always fight on! The team is excited to get back into the process of getting faster. We look forward to our next race in three weeks against San Diego State on our home course in the Port of Los Angeles."
In the V4+, Washington entered two boats in the race, while USC just entered one. the boat coxed by Olivia Lau and stroked by Anicka Mackova crossed the finish line with a time of 7:31.2 behind Washington's first boat (7:38.37) and ahead of Washington's second boat (7:34.4).
In the 2V8+, the Huskies finished first with a time of 6:37.0, while the Trojan boat, coxed by Maddy Kim and stroked by Sophia Bogert, recorded a time of 6:50.9.
In the V8+, the final race of the day, Washington placed first with a time of 6:29.5, and USC's top boat finished after clocking in at 6:43.5. The Varsity Eight was coxed by Eden Cooper-Squires and was stroked by Sarah Talamaivao.
The Women of Troy will now begin preparing to dual San Diego State on Saturday, March 21 on USC's home course at the Port of Los Angeles.
