THIS SEASON: Caitlin Tycz, a 2019 sophomore, is a quickly improving butterflyer who is looking to become a big factor in the Trojan point scoring efforts this season after making her NCAA debut as a freshman.
2018: Tycz was an NCAA qualifier as a 2018 freshman, finishing 33rd in the 200y fly (1:57.60) and 40th in the 100y fly (53.28) at the NCAA Championships … At the 2018 Pac-12s, Tycz was12th in both the 100y (53.06) and the 200y fly (1:55.98) and 33rd in the 50y free (23.34) … She reached the final of the 200y fly at the Texas Invitational, finishing seventh (1:57.15) … She won the 100y fly against UCLA (52.56) and was second in the 200y fly with a then PR 1:55.57 … She swam in the 50m (50th, 28.05), 100m (56th, 1:01.08) and 200m fly (64th, 2:16.30) at the 2018 U.S. Summer Nationals … Tycz earned CSCAA Scholar All-American first team honors.
HIGH SCHOOL: Tycz prepped at Brunswick (Maine) High where she was a two-time Maine Class A state swimmer of the meet and was the 2017 Maine Sunday Telegram Girls’ Swimmer of the Year. The first four-time female prep All-American from Maine, Tycz won the 100y fly at the 2017 state meet and also won the 100y fly at the 2016 and 2017 YMCA Short Course Nationals … She won four events at the 2016 Maine state meet, leading Brunswick to the state title while being named Outstanding Performer of the Meet. She won the 200y IM and the 100y fly in a state and meet record 53.32 while anchoring the winning 200y and 400y free relays … Tycz set the YMCA national record in the 100y fly (52.43) at the 2016 meet … She raced in the 100m fly at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials, finishing 103rd (1:01.77).
