Academic Spotlight
THIS SEASON: Allie Wooden, a versatile 2019 senior freestyler with speed from the sprints to the distances, is a two-time NCAA participant and a Pac-12 finalist who hopes to return to the NCAAs in her final season with the Trojans.
2018: Wooden raced in three events as a junior at the 2018 Pac-12 Championships, finishing 12th in the 1650y free (16:24.88), 24th in the 500y free (4:49.58) and 27th in the 200y free (1:48.67) … At the Texas Invitational, she was 13th in the mile (16:41.27) … She earned CSCAA Scholar All-American honorable mention notice and repeated as a Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention recipient.
2017: Wooden returned to the NCAA Championships for the second year in a row as a 2017 sophomore and finished 37th in the 1650y free (16:21.37) … At the Pac-12s, Wooden’s conference meet was highlighted by a sixth in the 1650y free (16:11.28). She was also 23rd in the 500y free (4:48.63) and 29th in the 200y free (1:59.42) … Wooden earned 2017 Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention honors.
2016: Wooden competed in three races at the 2016 NCAA Championships as a 2016 freshman, taking 23rd in the 1650y free (16:12.91), and 36th in the 500y free (4:44.18) and 45th in the 200y free (1:47.06) ... At the 2016 Pac-12 Championships, Wooden posted a pair of top 8 finishes and anchored the Trojans' 800y free relay title that set a then-school record (6:55.17). She was third in the timed final of the 1650y free (16:08.42) and was eighth in the 500y free (4:46.02). She was 18th in the 200y free (1:47.63) ... She had seven dual meet wins as a freshman, ranging from the 100y to 1000y free ... Wooden posted top 6 finishes in the 200y and 1650y free at the Texas Invitational ... She earned 2016 CSCAA Scholar All-America first team honors.
HIGH SCHOOL: Wooden prepped at Cincinnati Country Day School, where she was a two-time Ohio state champion as a 2014-15 senior, winning the 100y (49.43) and 200y free (1:46.96). She was also a finalist in the 50y free (23.05) and earned the Cincinnati Enquirer Swimmer of the Year honor for Division II ... She was a finalist at the 2015 NCSA Junior Nationals in the 1650y free (16:24.64) ... She competed at the 2015 Irish Open Swimming Championships as part of a group of top NCSA swimmers.
CLUB : Cincinnati Marlins.
PERSONAL: She was born on Oct. 25, 1996, and is a chemical engineering major.
