No. 15 Trojans Push Past Panthers for Four-Set Win

The Women of Troy put up 21.5 blocks in a victory over tournament host Northern Iowa
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The 15th-ranked USC women's volleyball team (2-2) used a big block (21.5 total) and held Northern Iowa (2-3) to .090 hitting for a four-set win (23-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-22) in the UNI Tournament at McLeod Center on Saturday, Sept. 7.

- So. setter Raquel Lázaro recorded her first-career triple-double (14th-career double-double) with 36 assists, 16 digs, and a career-high 11 blocks. Lázaro also had two kills in the match, one to seal the third set.
- Fr. OH Kalen Owes led all Trojans with 20.0 points on 15 kills (6e, 37att, .243), four blocks, and three service aces.
- Fr. MB Chandlar Duff played in her first collegiate match and racked up nine blocks (one solo) and had three kills and a dig.
- Jr. OH Brooke Botkin finished with 11 kills, seven digs, two blocks, and two service aces.
- Sr. MB Jasmine Gross put up 11 blocks and added six kills (2e, 18att, .222) with one service ace.
- Defensively, Sr. libero Jenna Adams led the Trojans with 18 digs.
- For the Panthers, Karlie Taylor led with 24 kills (12e, 54att, .222) and had a double-double with 12 digs. Kate Busswitz had 10 kills and five digs. Rachel Koop set UNI to a .090 hitting rate but put up 36 assists and had 17 digs.
- The teams were tied 13 times, but the lead changed hands for the sixth time to give Northern Iowa the path to a 25-23 win. The Panthers had 17 kills and held USC to 10 kills on a .087 hitting percentage.
- USC used a big push at the end of set two to even the match at one set apiece on a 25-20 win. The Trojans trailed by as many as five points but used a 10-point switch to win by five going away.
- The Women of Troy were never threatened in the third set and broke things open with seven blocks during a big 10-1 run that culminated in a 25-15 win. USC held UNI to a negative .091 hitting percentage in the frame.
- UNI led by as many as six points early on and were up, 17-11, as the Trojans called timeout. USC's 14-5 burst to end the set sealed a 25-22 win as the Trojans picked up another seven blocks to finish with 21.5 total.
- The Women of Troy conclude the UNI Tournament with a matchup against No. 23-ranked Creighton (2-2) at 5 p.m. CT (3 p.m. PT). The match will feature a live audio call on UNIPanthers.com.
- USC improved to 7-1 all-time against Northern Iowa.
- The Trojans improved to 4-1 all-time in the state of Iowa.
- The Women of Troy posted 21.5 blocks; the highest since the team had 21.0 against Pacific in 2014 (Aug. 30).
- So. Setter Raquel Lázaro's triple-double is the first by a Trojan in the 25-point rally-scoring era.
