The Trojans were swept by the Cornhuskers on the road

LINCOLN, Neb. – The USC women's volleyball team (9-11, 3-7 Big Ten) fell in straight sets (25-12, 25-16, 25-13) to No. 1 Nebraska (21-0, 10-0) at Devaney Center on Saturday, Oct. 24.

KEY PLAYERS

RS Jr. MB Leah Ford totaled seven kills (1e, 13att) on .462 hitting and had two blocks.
RS Jr. OH London Wijay had six kills and seven digs.
So. OPP Abigail Mullen tallied four kills to go with seven digs and a block.
Fr. S Milly McGee put up 20 assists to go with three digs and a block.
For the Huskers, Harper Murray led with 14 kills (2e, 26att) and .462 hitting. She also had seven digs and a pair of blocks. Virginia Adriano had 13 kills (4e, 18att, .500) to go with three digs. Olivia Mauch led all players with 10 digs and added eight assists. Bergen Reilly put up 34 assists to go with eight digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Huskers took set one, 25-12, on .471 hitting with 19 kills and held USC to .118 hitting with just nine kills thanks to 18 digs and a pair of blocks. Wijay, Mullen, Ford, and Tvrdy each had two kills apiece for the Women of Troy while Adriano had six and Murray had five to lead the Nebraska attack.
Through 13 rallies, the Trojans stayed toe-to-toe with the Huskers, but Nebraska went up by five at the technical stop, 15-10, and then pushed to go up, 2-0, with a 25-16 win. The Trojans got four kills from Ford and hit .222 in the second (10k, 4e, 27att), but Nebraska maintained its hot hand for .483 hitting and totaled 17 kills.
Nebraska completed the sweep with a 25-13 win in the third. The Huskers were powered by six kills from Murray and four more from Adriano. As a team, Nebraska hit .250 over USC's negative .029. The Cornhuskers also had a big edge in digs with an 18-9 margin in set three.

UP NEXT

USC returns home to close out the month of October on Friday night (Oct. 30) when Wisconsin visits Galen Center for a 7 p.m. PT match. The Trojans then host Minnesota on Sunday (Nov. 1) for a 1 p.m. contest that closes out the Discover Volleyball Challenge. Both matches will be shown live on Big Ten Plus.

USC falls to 5-5 all-time against Nebraska with a 1-2 record in Lincoln.
The Trojans go to 7-9 in the state of Nebraska.
USC falls to 8-26 all-time against No. 1-ranked teams, which now includes a 2-13 mark as the road team.
The match was part of the Big Ten Discover Volleyball Challenge. The Trojans fall to 1-3 in challenge matches.
