USC Gets 8-6 Comeback Win Over Washington State in Opener

USC faced a 4-1 deficit, but scored three runs in the sixth inning and then tied the game in the eighth to move to 22-22 overall and 10-15 in Pac-12 play. Washington State falls to 14-26-1 overall and 6-15-1 in conference action.
The Trojans jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fourth, but Washington State would score two runs in each of the next two innings to grab the 4-1 lead. Dubb then doubled home a run to kick off the comeback in the sixth and O'Guinn followed with a two-run single to tie things up. O'Guinn would come up with a runner on third and one out in the eighth, singling home Dillon Paulson to plate the go-ahead run.
Kaleb Murphy scored on a wild pitch in the ninth and then Dubb singled in what ended up being the winning runs on a single.
Chris Clarke came into the game in the sixth inning and gave USC three strong relief innings to hold Washington State in check and pick up the victory. Clarke gave up one hit and struck out four batters to retire nine of the 10 batters he faced. Lunn would come on in the ninth and give up a two-run homer, but settled down to get the final three outs and seal the win.
Blake Clanton hit two home runs for Washington State, including the two-run shot in the bottom of the ninth inning.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Dubb was 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and one run scored. Dubb has a five game hitting streak going, going 10 for his last 19 at-bats and raising his average 53 points over that time. He's now hitting .300.
- O'Guinn went 2-for-4 at the plate after coming on as a defensive replacement in the third inning, driving in three runs.
- Murphy was 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored.
- Clarke tossed 3.0 scoreless innings as the Trojans came back, giving up one hit and no walks, while striking out four batters.
