USC To Play At Oregon Thursday

The USC Trojans (13-6, 4-2) will play at the Oregon Ducks (12-6, 2-3) at the Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene, Ore. on Jan. 18 at 6:00 p.m.
BREAKING DOWN THE DUCKS -- Oregon is coming off a 90-83 loss at then No. 17 Arizona on Jan. 13, following a 76-72 win at then No. 11 Arizona State on Jan. 11. Oregon has won 7 of its last 10 games and is led in scoring by sophomore guard Payton Pritchard at 15.0 points per game. Oregon returned one starter and three lettermen from last season's Final Four team. USC has lost 14 consecutive games to Oregon, but leads the all-time series 60-56, which reflects two wins vacated from the 2008 season due to NCAA penalty. USC has lost seven straight games at Oregon, last winning in Eugene, Ore. on Jan. 2, 2009.
USC HITS 14 3'S EN ROUTE TO WIN OVER UTAH -- Utah scored the first six points of the game, but USC responded with a 24-3 run featuring six three-pointers and rolled to an 84-67 win at the Galen Center on Jan. 14. USC hit a season-best 14 three-pointers and led by as many as 28 points in the win, which snapped an eight-game losing streak to Utah. The 14 3-pointers made were USC's most made in a game since also makine 14 on Jan. 24, 2017 vs. UCLA. Jonah Mathews led the Trojans with 17 points off the bench, connecting on three 3-pointers. Jordan McLaughlin scored 14 points and had seven assists. USC made 9 of its 14 three-pointers in the first half to open up a 46-22 lead at the break. USC forced 17 turnovers and made 5 steals. Utah made 7 of its last 10 shots to finish the second half making 62.5 percent of its shots. For the game, Utah made 46.9 percent of its shots, while USC hit 43.3 percent for the game. USC actually made a higher percent (48.3) from three-point range. Utah was held to 32.0 percent in the first half. Utah's Justin Bibbins scored all 19 of his game-high points in the second half.
OREGON STATE ON DECK - USC's next game be at Oregon State (10-7, 2-3) on Jan. 20 at 5 p.m. The Beavers are coming off a tough 77-76 lost at then No. 11 Arizona State on Jan. 13 and will play UCLA on Jan. 18 before hosting USC. Forward Tres Tinkle (18.2) and guard Stephen Thompson Jr. (16.6) lead OSU in scoring. USC has won its last three games against OSU and leads the all-time series 70-63, which includes two wins in 2008 vacated due to NCAA penalty. USC won 70-63 at Oregon State last season which snapped a seven-game losing streak for the Trojan in Corvallis.
DEFENSIVE CHARGE -- Since allowing Washington to shoot 67.3 percent in a loss on Dec. 29, the highest shooting percentage by a Trojan opponent since 2003, USC has combined to hold its last five opponents to a 42.4 shooting percentage (120-for-283). In the five games, USC has registered 45 steals and forced 89 turnovers. USC is 7-0 this season when holding the opposition to under 40 percent shooting and 6-6 when they shoot better than 40 percent. USC is also 8-1 when forcing the opposition into 15 or more turnovers.
LAUNCHING THE LONG BALL -- USC is shooting 39.2 percent from three-point range this season which ranks tops among Pac-12 teams and is tied with Oregon for second in the conference with a total of 166 three-pointers made this season. USC has had nine games this season when it has shot over 40 percent from three-point range and has had 12 games with at least eight three-pointers made.
McLAUGHLIN JOINS EXCLUSIVE GROUP -- With his 7 assists on Sunday, Jordan McLaughlin now has 602 career assists and 1,438 career points scored to become the 10th player in Pac-12 history to surpass 600 career assists and 1,400 career points scored. He joins the following Pac-12 players as having accomplished the feat: Tyus Edney (UCLA), Jason Gardner (Arizona), Brandon Granville (USC), Brevin Knight (Stanford), Gary Payton (OSU), Pooh Richardson (UCLA), Damon Stoudamire (Arizona), Earl Watson (UCLA) and Kenya Wilkins (Oregon). Also, Andre Miller of current Pac-12 school Utah accomplished the feat.
PROTECTING THE ROCK -- USC enters this week's play 19th in the country with a 1.45 assist to turnover ratio. USC also ranks tied for 26th in fewest turnovers per game at 11.3 per game. USC leads all Pac-12 teams in both categories.
DYNAMIC FRONTCOURT TANDEMS -- USC forwards Chimezie Metu (16.7 ppg) and Bennie Boatwright (15.4 ppg) rank fourth among Power 5 frontcourt duos in scoring at 32.1 points per game through Jan. 15. Duke's front court of Marvin Bagley III (22.0) and Wendell Carter Jr. (13.5) have teamed up to score the most at 35.5 points per game. Ohio State (32.8) and Georgetown (32.5) round out the top three tandems.
