THIS YEAR:
Graduate student Jake Haydon is in his first season as a thrower on the USC track and field team.
BEFORE USC:
Heydon competed in the javelin throw at Coastal Carolina, where he graduated in 2024 with a Bachelor’s in Exercise and Sports Science. He has a personal best of 218-11 (66.74m) in the javelin throw which he set at the 2022 Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational. That mark ranks fourth on the Coastal Carolina all-time list in the javelin throw. He qualified in the javelin throw at the 2022 NCAA East Preliminary Rounds…He placed eighth overall in the javelin throw with a distance of 197-0 (60.05m) at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Earned Dean’s List and President’s List distinction academically at Coastal Carolina and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Among his accomplishments outside of competition were being named EXSS Student of the Year, USTFCCCA's All-Academic Team selection, named to the Dean’s List two times and to President’s List two times. He published two research articles: The Impact of Pre-sleep Tart Cherry Juice Supplementation in Female Collegiate Beach Volleyball Athletes and Betaine Supplementation Impacts Exercise Performance for Endurance Athletes in the Heat. He also assisted Coastal Carolina's Dietitian. Among the clubs he was involved with include the International Student-Athletes, - CHROMA - The Study of Art and Design - NSLS - National Society of Leadership and Success - Alpha Alpha Alpha - First Generation Student Honor Society - International Club - Exercise Science Club.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Heydon was a 2019 graduate of Holy Names Secondary School Windsor, Ontario, Canada where he lettered in football, volleyball, basketball and badminton. He ranked among the top three Canadian high school quarterbacks in 2017-2018 (No. 3) and 2018-2019 (No. 2). He was also ranked as the No. 4 javelin thrower in U20 Canada. He served as the Prime Minister of the Student Council.
PERSONAL:
Jake was born on April 5, 2001 in Ontario, Canada…His parents are Shannon and Jim Heydon and he has five siblings...He enjoys watching movies and working with ceramics, especially wheel-throw and glaze…His favorite movies include Seven, The Godfather and Interstellar…Says his favorite food is from a small restaurant company back home called Spago and that you can't go wrong with any of the options there…Would like to travel the world, as well as explore more of Canada…He is a member of the USC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)…After school he would like to continue his education in a doctoral program or get into an industry job focusing on energy availability and/or exercise physiology…….Heydon is working on a Masters in Biokinesiology with an Emphasis in Sports Science at USC..
