THIS YEAR: Junior Di’Niko Bates is in his first season as a hurdler on the USC track and field team, after two seasons at California.
BEFORE USC: Bates competed in parts of the 2022 and 2023 seasons with the California track program. He reached the 2023 NCAA West Preliminary Rounds in the 110m hurdles, after finishing third at the 2023 Pac-12 Championships in the event with a PR of 13.88. During the 2023 indoor season, he ran 7.87 in the 60m hurdles, fifth all-time by a Golden Bear. Was limited to four outdoor meets in 2022, winning the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.54 at the Aztec Invitational.
HIGH SCHOOL: Bates is a 2021 graduate of St. Mary’s College High in Oakland, Calif. He won the 300m hurdles and took second in the 110m hurdles at the 2021 Nor Cal Championships. He placed third in both the 300m and 110m hurdles at the 2021 Arcadia Invitational. In 2019, he competed in the 110m and 400m hurdles at the USAFT Junior Olympics. He also competed in the 100m and 300m hurdles at the CIF North Coast Section Meet of Championships.
PERSONAL: Di’Niko was born on May 7, 2003…His mother’s name is Monet Burnes and he has two siblings, Sasha and Mykel…His hobbies include travel and shopping…His favorite actor is Michael Rainey Jr., his favorite musical artist is Lil Baby and favorite movie is A Bronx Tale…His sports hero is American hurdler David Oliver…His impressive goals after school include becoming a corporate lawyer, the American 110m hurdles record holder and Olympic gold medalist…He is a Sociology major at USC.
