Bio
THIS YEAR: Graduate student Chioma Okonkwo is in her fifth season as a sprinter on the USC track and field team. Â
2021: Okonkwo was limited to three 400m races during the season due to a hamstring injury, with a season-best time of 55.74 at the Aztec Invitational.
2020: Okonkwo competed in four indoor races, posting a season-best 400m time of 55.18 to finish 12th at the MPSF Championships. She posted a 100m time of 11.60 (+3.8w) to take second at the Beach Opener, before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19.
HIGH SCHOOL: Okonkwo is a 2019 graduate from Murrieta Mesa HS in Murietta, Calif. She has PRs of 11.90 in the 100m, 24.19 in the 200m and 54.25 in the 400m. As a senior she place fifth in the 400m with a time of 54.83 at the California state meet. She won the 200m with a time of 24.58 (-1.3) at the 2019 Mt. SAC Relays. She was the Inland Empire 200m and 400m champion and set five Murrieta Mesa school records. She was a National Honor Society student and the 2019 Class Vice President, AVID Vice-President and French Club officer.
PERSONAL:Â Chioma was born on January 28, 2002 in Inglewood, Calif...Her parents are Chika and Okey Okonkwo and she has two older brothers, Jonathan and Matthew...Her brother Mathew runs track at UC Davis...The Okonkwo family is of Nigerian descent. Her hobbies include drawing, oil painting and playing the piano...Her favorite musical artists are Burna Boy and Chance the Rapper...Her favorite television show is The Challenge...Her favorite foods are Fettucini Alfredo and anything spicy...Someday she would like to visit Tanzania and Bali...She is involved in the National Society of Black Engineers, USC EERI and the USC Black Student Assembly...After college she would like to compete in track professionally and become CEO of her own architecture firm...She is a Civil Engineering (Building Science emphasis) major at USC.

2023: Okonkwo competed in four outdoor meets. She placed 12th in the 100m (11.69) and 13th in the 200m (23.73) at the Pac-12 Championships. She matched her 100m PR with a time of 11.56 (+1.1) in placing sixth in the event at the Trojan Invitational on April 8. She set her indoor 200m dash PR with a time of 24.15 in placing third at the Ken Shannon Last Chance Meet on Feb. 24.
2022: Okonkwo had a 100m PR of 11.56 (+1.9) at the Texas Relays on March 25. Was second in the 100m at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet with a time of 11.59 (-1.6) on May 1. Placed 10th in the 100m at the Pac-12 Championships with a time of 11.71 (+1.0) on May 14.  Was 24th in the event at the West Preliminary Rounds with a time of 11.57 (+0.7). Finished 10th in the 200m at the Pac-12 Championships with a time of 23.91 (+0.6) and was 21st at the NCAA West Prelims with a PR of 23.45 (+2.0) on May 28. She ran on USC's 4x100m relay which had a season-best time of 43.32 to place 10th at the NCAA Championships.
