THIS YEAR: Graduate student Breanna Bernard-Joseph is in her fifth season as a hurdler on the USC track and field team. She ranks ninth on USC's all-time 400m hurdles list and ninth on the school's indoor 4x400m list.
2022: Posted a season-best time of 58.53 to place 10th at the Mt. SAC Relays on Aprl 15. Won the USC-UCLA Dual Meet 400m hurdles title on May 1 with a time of 59.68. Placed seventh at the Pac-12 Championships with a time of 61.03 and 37th at the West Prelims with a time of 59.99.
2021: Competed at the Beach Invitational and set her 400m PR of 54.02. She placed seventh in the 400m hurdles at the Pac-12 Championships with a time of 58.80. Posted a 400m hurdles PR of 57.44 to finish fourth at the West Prelims ...that time moved her into ninth on USC's all-time 400m hurdles list. Finished 23rd at the NCAA Championships with a time of 60.27. Set her indoor 400m PR of 54.43 at the Championships at the Peak.
2020: Competed indoors for the first time and had a then-PR of 54.88 in the 400m at the Tiger Paw Invitational. She took second in the 400m with a time of 55.92 at the Beach Opener before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19.
2019: Bernard-Joseph was limited to four meets due to injury. She opened up in the 400m hurdles at the Jim Click Shootout and posted a time of 61.21. She had a 400m hurdles season best of 59.79 in placing third at the Mt. SAC Relays. She placed third at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet with a time of 61.12 and then finished 14th at the Pac-12 Championships in the 400m hurdles with a time of 60.56.
HIGH SCHOOL: Bernard-Joseph is a 2018 graduate from Eleanor Roosevelt High in Eastvale, Calif. She had a PR of 41.76 to win the 2018 CIF state 300m hurdles title…that time was eighth-best among high school hurdlers. She also has a PR of 13.72 in the 100m hurdles. Bernard-Joseph also anchored her high school’s 4x100m and 4x400m relays. Â
PERSONAL: Breanna was born October 19, 2000 in Long Beach, Calif…Her parents are Shonna Bernard-Joseph and Brian Joseph and she has one brother, Andre…Her father attended USC for graduate school and her brother plays football at Texas Southern…Says Dalilah Muhammad is her sports hero because she is an amazing runner and pushes herself to be the best… Her favorite food is mac and cheese…Her favorite movie is Avengers and her favorite television show is Rick and Morty…Lists her favorite musical artists as Jhene Aiko, Ariana Grande and BLXST...After graduation would like to continue her track career and become a sports broadcaster…She earned a Communication degree and is now working on a master's in Digital Media Management.
