THIS YEAR: Senior Josh Ligas is in his fourth year as a distance runner for the USC track and field team.Â
2021: In his first year with the Trojans he competed in both the 800m and 1500m. He finished third in the 800m with a PR of 1:51.04 at the Cal Dual Meet. He competed in the 800m at the Pac-12 Championships and placed 22nd. He set his 1500m PR of 3:52.27 to finish eighth at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet.
HIGH SCHOOL: Ligas is a 2020 graduate of Poway HS in Poway, Calif. He posted PRs of 4:25.97 in the 1600m and 9:36.11 in the 3200m. He was a two-time first-team all-conference and once was named second-team all-county. He was a National Honor Society member and won the Scholar-Athlete Award.
PERSONAL: Josh was born on June 4, 2002 in Hinsdale, Ill…His parents are Joe and Lori Ligas and he has two older sisters, Megan and Emily…He consistently volunteered at the San Diego Food Bank while in high school…He loves all things automotive including car shows and Formula 1…Lists his favorite movie as Mad Max Fury Road and his favorite musical artist is Pouya…Says his sports hero is Derrick Rose for how he continuously fought through adversity during his entire career…His favorite food is pancakes…Among other things after graduation, he would like to become an economist for an automotive company…He is an Economics major at USC.
CAREER BESTS: 800m – 1:50.41           1500m – 3:52.27
2023: Ligas placed seventh in the 800m with a PR of 1:50.41 at the Pac-12 Championships on May 14. He had a season-best 1500m time of 3:54.14 at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 14. During the indoor season, Ligas ran a one-mile PR of 4:15.35 at the Razorback Invitational on Jan. 28.Â
