
Trojan Sprinters Dominate Final Day Of Texas A&M 44 Farms Invitational

Men’s 4x100m sets school record, men 100m runners take top five places
USC sprinters dominated the competition, setting the school men's 4x100m relay record, taking the top five spots in the men's 100m and four of the top six places in the women's 100m dash to lead the Trojans during the final day of the Texas A&M 44 Farms Team Invitational being held at E.B. Cushing Stadium in College Station, Texas today (April 12). In all, USC won five events and set two meet records on the last day of the Texas A&M 44 Farms Team Invitational.
"It was a historic two days for the Trojans," said USC Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Quincy Watts. "Starting out with the throwers yesterday, Racquil Broderick took first place in men's discus throw and set a meet record and Ashley Erasmus took first place in the women's shot put and set a meet record.Â
"Madison Whyte became No. 1 in 200m on Friday and today tied her PR in the 400m and ranks second in the country in that event. In the women's 100m, freshman Brianna Selby wins overall with a PR and ties for 11th on USC's all-time list. Samirah Moody took second behind Selby and Jassani Carter took fifth.
"On the men's side, Taylor Banks ran a 100m season best and it was a historic moment for the Trojans by taking the top three spots in the men's 100m with all running sub-10.00. Travis Williams took fourth at 10.07. Max (Thomas) returns from injury and in his first race wins with a time of 9.92, Garrett (Kaalund) takes second at 9.93 and Eddie (Nketia) takes third at 9.96. William Jones runs a season best in the 400m and is ranked No. 2 in the country. The men's 4x100m relay broke the school record with time of 38.41.Â
"Our all-freshman women's 4x100m relay of Olivia Pace, Mia Brahe-Pedersen, Avery Lewis and Brianna Selby placed second overall. Jalaysiya Smith continues to improve coming off injury and took third in the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 13.12.
"I am so proud of these young men and women on how hard they competed and more importantly, how they put The Shield out front."

- The USC men's 4x100m relay team of senior Travis Williams, junior Max Thomas, junior transfer Garrett Kaalund and sophomore transfer Edward Nketia won with a school-record and NCAA-leading time of 38.41. That time also set the meet and facility records, both of which were set in 2022, and currently ranks fifth on the world leaders list.  The previous USC record of 38.49 was also set in 2022.
- The men's sprinters then shined in the 100m dash by taking the top five places and six of the top seven positions. Leading the way was Thomas who won with a wind-aided PR of 9.92 (+2.4w), followed by Kaalund with a wind-aided PR of 9.93 (+2.4w), Nketia with a wind-aided PR of 9.96 (+2.4w), Williams with a wind-aided PR of 10.07 (+2.4w) and junior JC Stevenson with a season-best time of 10.13 (2.4w). Graduate transfer Taylor Banks finished seventh with a season-best time of 10.15 (+0.7) and was just 0.004 seconds out of the Trojans grabbing the top six spots. Thomas, Kaalund and Nketia now rank second, third and fourth respectively on the NCAA descending order list.
- Sophomore Madison Whyte won the women's 400m race by tying her PR of 50.91 and junior Yemi John placed third with a season-best time of 51.31. Whyte remains second on the NCAA descending order list and John moves into fifth place on the list. Whyte also set the meet record, breaking the time set by Athing Mu in 2022 while competing for Nike.
- Freshman Brianna Selby won the women's 100m dash with a PR and tied for the 11th-fastest time in school history of 11.11 (+1.9). Her time currently ranks tied for eighth among NCAA runners and is tied with Camryn Dickson of Texas A&M as the fastest wind-legal time so far this outdoor season. Senior Samirah Moody placed second with a time of 11.15 (+1.9) and junior Jassani Carter took fifth with a time of 11.27 (+2.6w). Freshman Olivia Pace placed sixth with a season-best time of 11.37, which is 0.01 second off her PR set in high school. Freshman Tiana Eyakpobeyan finished ninth with a season-best wind-legal time of 11.41 (+1.8).
- The women's 4x400m relay team of John, Carter, freshman Mia Brahe-Pedersen and Whyte won with a season-best time of 3:29.61. USC's time moved them to sixth on the NCAA descending order list.
- Junior William Jones placed second in the men's 400m, tops among collegians, by winning with the second-fastest time by an NCAA runner this season of 45.09. That time was Jones' fastest 400m time since setting his PR of 44.65 at the 2023 Pac-12 Championships. The only person to finish in front of him today was two-time Olympic 4x400m relay gold medalist Bryce Deadmon. Sophomore Jacob Andrews placed fifth with his college-best time of 45.96. There were 59 runners in the men's 400m competition.
- USC's all freshmen women's 4x100m relay team of Pace, Brahe-Pedersen, Avery Lewis and Selby took second with a season-best time of 43.46. Their time has the USC quartet currently ranking as the seventh-fastest school on the NCAA descending order list.
- Junior Elias Gerald placed second in the men's high jump with a clearance of 7-1.50 (2.17m). He went out at the next height of 7-3 (2.21m) as did the winner Kason O'Riley of Texas State, but Gerald placed second due to misses.
- Senior Jalaysiya Smith placed third in the women's 100m hurdles with a wind-aided season best of 13.12 (+3.3w).
- Juniors Lauren Reed and Jada Foreman finished fourth and sixth respectively in the women's triple jump competition. Reed had a windy PR of 42-5.25/12.93m (+2.8w) and Foreman a best jump of 42-0.75/12.82m (+3.0w).
- Freshman Ashley Erasmus placed seventh with a PR of 176-11 (53.92m) in the women's discus throw and sophomore Reese Garland placed eighth with a best mark of 176-6 (53.81m). Erasmus moved from ninth to tied for seventh on the USC women's all-time discus throw list. Garland is fifth on that same list.
- Junior transfer Karyssa Owens was the first Trojan to compete today and she placed seventh in the women's hammer throw with a best mark of 190-2 (57.96m)
