No. 17 USC Men’s Swimming and Diving Drops Final Dual to Utah

LOS ANGELES – The No. 17 ranked USC men's swimming team came up short on Saturday, Feb. 17, falling to Pac-12 rival Utah 156-142 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
With the loss, the Trojans wrap up their regular season 2-5 overall and 0-5 in conference action.
USC opened the meet with a win in the 200y medley relay as Michal Chmielewski, Chris O'Grady, Danny Syrkin and Artem Selin combined to clock a 1:28.04.
Trojan Derek Zhang claimed the 100y backstroke in 48.91, just .03 seconds ahead of teammate Griffin O'Leary who touched second (48.94).
Moving into the 100y breaststroke, Troy would finish 2-3 as Ben Dillard (53.70) and Chris O'Grady (54.51) finished second and third, respectively.
After finishing fourth in the 200 LCM butterfly at the recent World Aquatic Championships in Doha, M. Chmielewski returned to finish second in the 200-yard fly (1:45.57). Senior Harry Homans was third in 1:46.34.
USC went 1-2 in the 50y free, led by Mateo Parker (20.25) in first, and Artem Selin (20.30) in second.
Junior O'Grady won the 200y breast (1:57.51), while Dillard was second in 1:57.96.
One of Troy's best showings came in the 200y IM as Homans led a 1-2-3 USC sweep. Homans was first in 1:48.87, followed by Dillard (1:48.96) in second and Sanberk Oktar (1:50.19) in third.
The Trojans diving squad performed well on 1-meter as Shangfei Wang (366.35) and Laurent Gosselin-Paradis (347.40) finished first and second, respectively. On 3-meter, Wang was second (358.90) and Gosselin-Paradis was third (354.75).
