No. 5 USC Men's Tennis Drops First Dual Match of the Season
February 10, 2024 | Men's Tennis
Senior #96 Lodewijk Weststrate pulled the upset, besting #32 Alex Garcia 6-2, 7-6(5)
STILLWATER, Okla. - No. 5 USC men's tennis (4-1) suffered its first loss of the season, 4-3, to Oklahoma State (7-2) on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla.
With several scratches from their lineup, the Trojans were forced to move around their lineup as they took on their first road dual of the 2024 season. USC struggled to match the Cowboys with all the changes and could only muster two wins: one double and one single.
The brand-new doubles squad of junior Karl Lee and sophomore Oscar Weightman proved successful at the No. 3 spot, as they put together a dominant 6-1 victory. Weightman is 3-0 in doubles this season (2-0 with graduate student Stefan Dostanic and 1-0 with Lee).
Senior Lodewijk Weststrate was the lone Trojan with a singles win. He pulled off his biggest upset of the young season, besting #32 Alex Garcia 6-2, 7-6(5) at the No. 2 spot. The senior is now 5-4 versus ranked opponents in fall and spring; that is his first win against a top-35 player.
