May 17, 2026 | Men's Tennis
Johnson becomes the 22nd USC men's tennis representative in the ITA Men's Tennis Hall of Fame.
USC tennis legend Steve Johnson was officially inducted into the 2026 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Men's Tennis Hall of Fame on Sunday, May 17, in a ceremony held prior to the start of the NCAA Division I Championships at the University of Georgia. Johnson joins a distinguished group of 2026 honorees that includes former players John Isner and Kevin Anderson, longtime coach Manny Diaz and contributor John Frierson.
During his playing career, Johnson (2008-2012) helped lead USC to four consecutive NCAA team titles, and individually captured a pair of NCAA singles championships (2011-2012). The four-time All-American and two-time ITA Player of the Year closed out his career with an NCAA-record 72-match win streak.
In the pro circuit, Johnson posted an overall record of 197-204 on the ATP Tour. He won four singles titles in his career, reached a high of No. 21 in the world in 2016, won a pair of doubles titles and earned more than $8 million in career earnings. In 2016, Johnson and fellow American Jack Sock teamed up to earn the men's doubles bronze medal at the Rio Olympics.
Johnson's induction makes him the 22nd USC men's tennis representative in the ITA Men's Tennis Hall of Fame. He is the 19th USC men's player to be inducted and is the first player since Matt Anger was elected in as part of the class of 2014.
The ITA Men's Hall of Fame inducted its first class in 1983 and has since inducted more than 270 players, coaches and contributors. Players are eligible for election to the Hall of Fame 10 years after the conclusion of their participation on a team, provided they are no longer playing on the pro tour. Coaches are eligible immediately following retirement. The main criteria for election includes college accomplishments and honors earned after college.
