Trojans Power Past CSU Bakersfield, 12-8

LOS ANGELES, CA -- Carson Wells racked up five RBI as both he and Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek hit grand slams to help lead the USC baseball team past the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners, 12-8, on Tuesday.
Sophomore Fisher Johnson (4-3) got the win out of the bullpen for USC (28-20-1). The right-hander went two innings, giving up one run on two hits. Freshman Michael Ebner also pitched well, going 1.2 shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out two.
Wells and Martin-Grudzielanek led the way with five and four RBI respectively. Freshman Austin Overn also contributed for USC, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a triple, two walks and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 3-0, the Trojans first put runs on the board in the second inning. USC's offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a grand slam off the bat of Grudzielanek.
The Roadrunners then tied the ballgame at six before the Trojans came back to reclaim their advantage in the fourth inning. USC got a grand slam from Wells to score all four of their runs in the inning, which brought the score to 10-6 in favor of the Trojans.
CSU Bakersfield narrowed USC's lead to 10-8 before the Trojans stretched the advantage to 12-8 in the fifth inning. The Trojans scored two runs in the frame, punctuated with an RBI triple from Overn. The score remained 12-8 for the rest of the game, as USC coasted to the win.
