USC Baseball Secures Four-Seed at Pac-12 Tournament With 14-6 Win at Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. – The USC baseball team secured the No. 4 seed in the Pac-12 Tournament with a win in their regular season finale, pounding out a season-high 19 hits to take down Arizona 14-6 on Saturday night.

USC matched its season high with four homers and scored its third most runs of the year to put an exclamation point on what has been a remarkable regular season. The Trojans move to 33-22-1 overall and 17-13 in Pac-12 play, while Arizona moves to 30-23, 12-18. USC's overall and conference win totals are both the program's best since 2015 (the last time USC made an NCAA Tournament).

Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek got the hit parade started with a solo-homer in the first inning, sparking USC to four homers in the first four innings. Carson Wells hit a three-run shot in the second, and Ryan Jackson and Cole Gabrielson each homered in the fourth. Jackson hit a two-run shot and Gabrielson hit a three-run homer to make it 9-3.

USC tacked on runs in the fifth, seventh and eighth to stay comfortably in front the rest of the way. Arizona hit three solo-homers in the fifth inning, but wouldn't score the rest of the way.

Josh Blum took over on the mound in the fifth, getting the final two outs of the inning. He would toss 1.1 scoreless relief frames. Kyle Wisch came in with the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth, getting a lineout to keep Arizona off the board. Wisch would throw a scoreless eighth before handing it off to Garrett Clarke in the ninth, who would retire all three batters he faced.

COMING UP
The Trojans open the Pac-12 Tournament on Tuesday (May 23) against No. 7 seed UCLA at 2:30 p.m. The Trojans will also face No. 3 seeded Washington on Thursday (May 25) at 2:30 p.m. to close pool play at the conference tournament. The Pac-12 Tournament semi-finals will be held on Friday and finals will be held on Saturday. All games will be at Scottsdale Stadium and broadcast live on the Pac-12 Network.
