USC Baseball Drops 10-Inning Slugfest in Seattle, Falling 14-12 to Washington

SEATTLE, Wash. --The USC Trojans fell 14-12 in a 10-inning matchup to the Washington Huskies Friday.
Senior Garrett Clarke (2-3) came out of the bullpen for USC (25-15-1, 11-8) and took the loss. Senior Kyle Wisch was a bright spot for the Trojans, coming out of the bullpen as well and throwing 1.2 shutout innings, allowing no hits, with one walk and three strikeouts.
At the plate, the Trojans were paced by senior Johnny Olmstead, who went 4-for-4 on the day with a double, a home run, a walk and three RBI. Freshman Ethan Hedges compiled a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-for-5 with a double, a triple and three RBI. Freshman Luca DiPaolo also contributed for USC, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a home run and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Trojans were trailing 3-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Senior Connor Clift drove in two runs for USC with a single, that scored junior Carson Wells and Olmstead.
The Trojans deficit expanded to 4-2 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, taking over the lead in the fifth inning. USC hit two home runs in the inning on the way to pushing five runs across, which brought the score to 7-4 in favor of the Trojans.
Washington narrowed USC's lead to 7-6 before the Trojans stretched the advantage to 8-6 in the sixth inning. The Trojans scored once on an RBI single off the bat of freshman Austin Overn.
USC surrendered the lead they built in the sixth, but got back on the scoreboard in the seventh trailing 9-8. The Trojans scored four runs in the inning, highlighted by a three-run triple off the bat of Hedges, bringing the score to 12-9 in favor of USC. The Trojans were unable to hold the lead, as Washington scored five times over the remaining three innings to grab the 14-12 win. Coby Morales hit the walk-off homer in the 10th for Washington.
