USC Baseball Overcomes Early Deficit to Beat CSUN 8-5

LOS ANGELES, CA --The USC baseball team took a 4-3 lead in the third inning and never trailed from there on the way to an 8-5 victory over the CSUN Matadors on Tuesday.
Senior Toby Spach (2-1) got the win out of the bullpen for USC (22-13-1). The right-hander went 2.1 shutout innings, giving up one hit, no walks and striking out five. Sophomore Fisher Johnson also pitched well, going 1.2 shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out one.
At the plate, the Trojans were led by senior Connor Aoki, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a home run and three RBI. Freshman Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek compiled a standout day at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Senior Connor Clift also helped out for USC, hitting his third homer of the season to go along with a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Trojans scored in six different innings on the way to victory. After going down 3-1 early, USC broke a 3-3 tie and took the lead for good at 4-3 in the third inning when senior Johnny Olmstead came across to score on a wild pitch.
