USC’s McKenzie Forbes Named A National Player of the Week
December 28, 2023 | Women's Basketball
She’s one of five Ann Meyers Drysdale Women’s National Players of the Week.
Fresh off claiming her first Pac-12 Women's Basketball Player of the Week award, USC grad student McKenzie Forbes scored national honors as an Ann Meyers Drysdale Women's National Player of the Week for her efforts across two Trojan victories last week.
A 6-foot guard/forward, Forbes tallied a season-high 17 points vs. Cal State Fullerton and then more than doubled that effort with a career-high 36 points in an 85-77 road win at Long Beach State. Her 36 points was the most scored in a game by a Trojan since Mariya Moore scored 36 in 2019. Also against the Beach, Forbes made a career-high 13 free throws on a career-high 16 attempts and collected a season-high seven rebounds. She has now scored in double figures in USC's last five games.
Forbes joins four other standouts on this week's USBWA national list, standing tall alongside Alexis Andrews (Charleston), Talya Burger (Saint Joseph's), Caitlin Clark (Iowa) and Jacy Sheldon (Ohio State).
Forbes and the Women of Troy kick off Pac-12 play this week, with No. 6/5 USC putting its perfect 10–0 record up against an also-undefeated No. 2 UCLA in a visit to Westwood for a 5 p.m. rivalry clash on Saturday (Dec. 30).
