Ranked No. 21 In The Nation, USC Women’s Basketball Announces Tip Times, TV For 2023-24
October 17, 2023 | Women's Basketball
In the national preseason polls for the first time since 2011, USC will have 20 games televised this season.
USC women's basketball has picked up its first Associated Press and USA Today preseason rankings since 2011 in weighing in at No. 21 in the nation in both as the 2023-24 season approaches. Lindsay Gottlieb's Women of Troy boast talent at every turn, and are coming off a 21-win season and the program's first NCAA appearance since 2014.
The unveiling of today's preseason polls coincides with the Pac-12 Conference's announcement of the women's basketball television schedule. USC will have 20 televised contests, beginning with the Trojans' season-opening clash against Ohio State on TruTv. That kickoff event takes place on Nov. 6 in Las Vegas as part of the Naismith Hall of Fame Series, which also features the USC men's opener later that night.
The Women of Troy also have an ESPN2 date locked in for Feb. 12, when USC hosts Arizona in a conference clash at Galen Center. The rest of USC's Pac-12 slate will be televised on Pac-12 Networks. This season, USC also has a nonconference matchup set for Pac-12 Networks when Cal State Fullerton comes to Galen Center on Dec. 18. CLICK HERE FOR COMPLETE SCHEDULE.
USC's No. 21 national ranking marks the fourth time the Trojans have appeared in preseason AP and USA Today polls since 2005. It's the highest preseason ranking for USC in that span, following No. 23 in 2011, No. 22 and 2006 and No. 24 (AP) and No. 22 (USA Today) in 2005.
The 2023-24 USC women are under the direction of head coach Lindsay Gottlieb for the third season, returning two All-Pac-12 honorees in Rayah Marshall and Kayla Williams while adding the nation's No. 1 recruit and back-to-back Gatorade National Player of the Year JuJu Watkins along with three Ivy League impact players in transfers Kaitlyn Davis, McKenzie Forbes and Kayla Padilla. Last season, USC amassed 21 victories to notch the most wins since 2013-14, and earned an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2006. USC's last NCAA appearance had come in 2014 after winning the Pac-12 Tournament title. Gottlieb's 2022-23 Trojans also set a program record defensively in holding opponents to 35.4 percent shooting last season, helped in part by Marshall's blocking prowess, which has her holding an active streak of 51 straight games with at least one block.
