Amaya Oliver and Zayla Tinner ink NLIs to join USC women’s basketball.
As the 2020 school year winds down, the USC women's basketball program has its eyes on a bright future with the addition of two new Women of Troy. Amaya Oliver and Zayla Tinner have today (April 15) signed national letters of intent to come to USC next season, head coach Mark Trakh has announced. The two talents will join already-inked incoming Trojan Jordyn Jenkins as USC's freshman class for 2020-21.
A California product, 6-2 guard/forward Amaya Oliver hails from St. Mary's High School in Stockton. The Richmond native averaged 22 points and 8 rebounds per game in her senior season, earning First Team All-Northern California honors while helping her team win the NCS championship.Â
"Amaya is a versatile perimeter threat who plays with a high motor," Trakh said of Oliver. "She's a double-double machine and takes pride in attacking the boards. Her ability to really elevate allows her to finish over defenses. Amaya has a huge upside at the collegiate level and she will be a great addition to our basketball culture. We are proud to welcome Amaya to the Trojan Family!"
USC adds a fourth Texan to the roster with Zayla Tinner's signing. A 5-10 guard from Amarillo High School, Tinner is a two-time Texas 5A state champion and two-time 5A Texas Player of the Year. In her senior season, she averaged 21 points and 6 rebounds per game while going on to finish her prep career as a three-time TABC All-State and TGCA All-State honoree as well as a three-time District 3-5A MVP.
"Zayla is an extremely hard worker who will do whatever it takes to win,"Â Trakh said of Tinner. "She's won back-to-back Texas State Championships and has led her team in all statistical categories. Zayla will use her athleticism and determination to make her mark at USC. We are extremely looking forward to having a great person and athlete in Zayla join us! Welcome to the Trojan Family!"
Oliver, Tinner and Jenkins join a youthful USC roster that featured nine freshmen and sophomores this 2019-20 season. USC had been on track for a WNIT appearance after posting a 17-14 overall record by the close of the Pac-12 Tournament before all competition was cancelled by the COVID-19 pandemic.
