USC Women Take Down Colorado in Four-Set Home Win

Outside hitter Khalia Lanier posted her third match with more than 30 kills in her last four outings
LOS ANGELES – The USC women's volleyball team (14-10, 8-6 Pac-12) defeated Colorado (11-13, 3-11) in four sets (25-15, 23-25, 28-26, 25-19), at Galen Center on Saturday, Nov. 9.

- For the third time in four matches, Sr. OH Khalia Lanier finished with more than 30 kills. She equaled the 10th-highest single-match mark in school history with 33 (5e, 62att) and hit .452 against the Buffaloes. Lanier also had five digs and a block. Through two matches, Lanier had 73 kills (8.11 kps) and now has 1,880 career kills; only 39 from eclipsing Alex Jupiter (1,918 kills; 2008-11) for second all-time in USC history. She also soared into 17th in Pac-12 history.
- So. setter Raquel Lázaro had 45 assists and posted her league-leading 16th double-double of the season with 16 digs (28th of her career). Lázaro also had three blocks and a kill. Lázaro moved ahead of Sue Peters (2,544 assists; 1989-92) into 10th place all-time at USC for career assists with 2,556.
- Sr. MB Jasmine Gross collected nine kills (3e, 18att, .333) and led all players with six blocks (two solo).
- Fr. OPP Emilia Weske tallied 10 kills (4e, 22att) and hit .273 to go with two blocks and a service ace.
- Defensively, USC senior Raegan LeGrand had 14 digs and put up nine assists. Jenna Adams had nine digs and tied her career high with four service aces.
- For the Buffaloes, Justine Spann led with 17 kills (9e, 51att, .157) and Elissa Alcantara had 15 (5e, 36att, .278). Jenna Ewert posted 44 assists and had five kills and seven digs. Rachel Whipple led all players with 20 digs.
- USC used a 4-0 run to take a 5-2 lead in the first set and never looked back to take a 25-15 victory. Lanier started strong with eight kills on 10 swings without an error and the Trojans hit .552 with an 87-percent sideout rate.
- Set two was tied 20 times and the lead changed hands nine times before the Buffaloes took a 25-23 win.
- The Trojans went back and forth with the Buffs again in the third. Each team led by as many as three points during the run of the set but Colorado took set point at 24-23. USC fought off three set points to score a 28-26 win for a 2-1 lead in the match. Lanier tallied 12 of her kills in the third set with just one error on 20 swings (.550) to pace a .357 outing by the Trojans.
- Lanier was relentless in the fourth and racked up nine more kills while hitting .300. The Trojans had three of their 10 blocks in the fourth and out-dug the Buffaloes, 19-15, to hold Colorado to a .000 hitting percentage. The Trojans broke the set's sixth tie to go up, 14-13, on Adams' fourth service ace, which sparked a 7-2 run that gave USC a 20-15 lead. Lanier had three more kills including the final point out of the pipe to close out a 25-19 win for the match.
- The Women of Troy head to the Bay Area to face No. 5 Stanford on Friday (Nov. 15, 6 p.m. PT) at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, Calif.; then go to the East Bay to take on No. 20 California on Sunday (Nov. 17, noon PT) at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley, Calif. Both matches will be shown live on the Pac-12 Networks.
- USC improved to 18-1 all-time against Colorado and has won four straight matches over the Buffaloes.
- The Trojans improved to 168-40 (.808) all-time at Galen Center.
