Tina Thompson’s Jersey Retirement Ceremony To Be Held Saturday At Galen Center

All-American. WNBA Champion. Olympic Gold-Medalist. Hall of Famer.
Los Angeles native Tina Thompson's basketball resume shines as brightly as the spotlight that will soon light up her #14 jersey in the rafters of the Galen Center.
Currently the head coach of the Virginia women's basketball team, Thompson returns to LA this weekend as her Cavaliers take on her alma mater.
Prior to the USC-Virginia tipoff at 2 p.m., USC will honor the Trojan legend with a ceremony retiring her USC #14 jersey.
NOTABLE:
- The last time USC faced Virginia in women's basketball, Tina Thompson was a USC player (1993 & 1995)
- Former USC assistant coach and WNBA coach Fred Williams will be in attendance, along with several of Thompson's former teammates.
- Thompson also has former USC teammate Karleen Shields Thompson on her Virginia coaching staff.
- Tina Thompson is the sixth USC women's basketball player to have her jersey retired, joining Cynthia Cooper, Lisa Leslie, Pam McGee, Paula McGee and Cheryl Miller.

Last year, Tina Thompson became the 10th Trojan and the fourth USC female to be included into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Also a 2018 inductee into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, Thompson dominated college basketball during her All-American career at USC from 1993-1997. She still looms as USC's No. 5 all-time scorer and rebounder and was an all-conference first-teamer for three seasons with the Trojans. Thompson's exceptional college career led her to become the first-ever WNBA draftee in the 1997 inaugural WNBA Draft. After being drafted by the Houston Comets, Thompson led the Comets to four straight WNBA championships from 1997-2000 alongside her fellow Trojan teammate Cynthia Cooper-Dyke. Thompson was also a nine-time WNBA All-Star (1999-2003, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2013) and earned All-WNBA First Team honors three times (197, 1998, 2004).
Thompson continued to find success on the international stage with Team USA, winning two gold medals in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics. She also played in professional leagues overseas including South Korea, Russia and Romania. Thompson won a Russian National League Championship and EuroLeague Championship in 2007, as well as a Romanian National League Championship in 2010.
