USC Downs No. 20 California For Bay Area Split

BERKELEY, Calif. – The USC women's volleyball team (15-11, 9-7 Pac-12) defeated 20th-ranked California (20-6, 10-6) in four sets (25-16, 25-22, 21-25, 25-20) at Haas Pavilion on Sunday, Nov. 17.

KEY PLAYERS
- Sr. OH Khalia Lanier led the Women of Troy with 16 kills (4e, 39att) on .308 hitting to go with four digs and two blocks.
- Sr. MB Jasmine Gross recorded 11 kills (2e, 23att) and hit .391 with five blocks.
- Fr. OPP Emilia Weske scored 16.5 points with eight kills, five blocks, and a career-high six service aces.
- So. setter Raquel Lázaro put up 41 assists to go with eight digs, two blocks, and two kills.
- Fr. MB Madison Horin had five kills (.500) and collected five blocks (one solo).
- For the Golden Bears, Maddie Haynes led the offense with 20 kills (4e, 41att, .390). Bailee Huizenga had 11 kills (5e, 29att, .207). Isabel Potter had the double-double with 45 assists and 12 digs.
- The Women of Troy opened the match by scoring the first 10 points. USC hit .400 and got seven kills from Lanier for a 25-16 win. The Trojans out-blocked the Bears, 4-1, and held Cal to a .129 hitting percentage.
- USC faced 10 ties before it broke away to get a 25-22 win in the second set. Gross grabbed five of her kills in the second frame and Weske had three of her service aces.
- The Cal offense came to life in the third and racked up 20 kills to come away with a 25-21 win while hitting .425 behind eight kills from Haynes. USC forced five ties but couldn't overcome the Bear attack.
- USC got six kills from Lanier and Weske served two more aces including two on the final three rallies of the match to sew up a 25-20 victory and close the books on the four-set victory.
- The Women of Troy return home to host Oregon State on Thursday (Nov. 21) at Galen Center for a 7 p.m. PT match. The Trojans and Beavers will be shown on a Pac-12+ stream. USC will host Oregon on Sunday (Nov. 24) for a 1 p.m. matinee that will be carried live on the Pac-12 Networks.
- USC improved to 62-12 all-time against California and has won nine straight over the Golden Bears.
- The Trojans moved to 42-47 all-time in the Bay Area and to 26-7 when playing at Cal.
- Lanier's career kill total reached 1,915 which moves her into a tie for 13th all-time in Pac-12 history with Oregon State's Mary Kate Marshall (2014-17). She needs four more kills to move ahead of Trojan All-American Alex Jupiter (1,918) for second all-time in school history and 12th all-time in league history.
