Two More Takedowns For Top-Ranked Trojans in Santa Barbara

USC’s defense gets stronger on day two at the UCSB Winter Invitational.
SANTA BARBARA, CALIF. — The No. 1 USC women's water polo team rang up two more solid wins at the UCSB Winter Invitational today, taking out No. 9 Michigan 9-2 before a 19-3 with another pair of well-balanced outings. The Trojans are now 4-0 overall on the year as they build toward their defense of the national championship.
In a matchup against No. 9 Michigan the Trojans had a slower scoring start than in its first two games but still proved the stronger team thanks to some stingy defense. While goalie Amanda Longan locked up 10 saves in the cage, the Trojan offense saw juniors Maud Megens and Kelsey McIntosh combine for five goals. Newcomers Alejandra Aznar, Grace Tehaney and Tilly Kearns also got to the back of the net for the Trojan cause, along with sophomore Paige Hauschild to net a 9-2 win for USC.
In the afternoon, USC was up against Fresno State, and the Trojans were in full force on the offensive end once again. Ten Trojans scored in the 19-3 victory, paced by Kearns' five goals and a hat trick from Hauschild. Holly Parker checked into the cage for this one and hauled in a career-high 10 saves to help anchor the win for USC.
USC has two more games on tap tomorrow (Jan. 20) at the UCSB Winter Invitational, going up against UC San Diego at 9:45 a.m. and Indiana at1 2:45 p.m. out in Santa Barbara.
