No. 13 Volleyball Trojans Beat Bears in Four Sets

The Women of Troy bounced back to claim a 3-1 win over California on the road
BERKELEY, Calif. – The 13th-ranked USC women's volleyball team (11-4, 3-1 Pac-12) got back on the winning track and claimed a four-set victory (23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 28-26) over California (8-7, 0-4) at Haas Pavilion on Sunday, Sept. 30.

- Jr. OH Khalia Lanier had 26 kills (7e, 60att) and hit .317 with 11 digs for her sixth double-double of the season (31st career).
- Sr. libero Victoria Garrick led all players with 18 digs and moved two spots into the USC career ladder for digs. She passed April Ross (2000-03) and Jennifer Kessy (1995-98) and now has 1,312 to rank ninth.
- So. OH Brooke Botkin had 20 kills (3e, 47att) and hit .362 with 10 digs for her sixth double-double of the year (seventh career). She also scored three points on two solo blocks and a service ace.
- Fr. setter Raquel Lázaro dished out 52 assists and had 17 digs for her seventh double-double of the season.
- Jr. OPP Emily Baptista added 13 kills (4e, 32att, .281) to go with five blocks and two digs.
- For the Bears, Preslie Anderson led with 12 kills (0e, 17att, .706) and had five blocks. Mima Mirkovic had 11 kills with nine digs and five blocks; and Carmen Annevelink added 10 kills (3e, 21att, .333). Bailee Huizenga produced 12 kills with three blocks.
- The Bears broke the 12th tie of the first set and claimed the final point on a kill by Lauren Forte to win, 25-23.
- Tied at 13-all in the second, the Trojans pressed for a 4-1 run to lead by three at 17-14. The Bears closed the gap to a single point at 19-18, but USC stayed the course and finished with a big block to win, 25-22.
- Trailing, 21-19, in the third, Lanier caught fire and scored five straight kills for the Women of Troy. The Trojans sealed a 25-21 win to go up, 2-1, in the match with a 6-0 run.
- USC fell back by five points, 18-13, in the fourth but chipped away and equalized at 23-all. The Bears took set point twice, but Lanier and Botkin saved each on kills. On its third match-point rally, USC got the win on Botkin's 20th kill.
- USC returns to Galen Center for its next four matches and hosts Oregon State on Thursday (Oct. 4) and Oregon on Sunday (Oct. 7). Both matches will be streamed live on the USC Pac-12+ channel.
- USC improves to 59-12 all-time against California.
- The Trojans have won six in a row against the Bears and seven straight in Berkeley.
