Trojans and Lions Postponed Due to Fog
March 13, 2018 | Baseball, Features
LOS ANGELES – The USC baseball team had its game at Loyola Marymount called in the top of the fifth inning due to fog on Tuesday night. The teams will make the game up on April 18 at 6 p.m. at LMU. Since the contest did not make it past the fifth inning, the teams will start the April 18 contest from scratch. The Trojans led 5-3 when the game was cancelled.
The fog started rolling in during the third inning and then created a delay at the start of the fifth inning. The teams resumed play momentarily, but after a second delay, the game was called.
USC had a big first inning, sending all nine batters to the plate to score five runs and take a commanding early lead. Matthew Acosta doubled to lead the game off and then Brandon Perez, Blake Sabol and John Thomas all came through with RBI singles in the frame.
LMU would score twice in the bottom half of the first thanks to a triple off the centerfield wall and sacrifice fly, then tacked on a third run on a USC error in the third.
The Trojans now look to Thursday when USC will open up Pac-12 play at home against Utah at 6 p.m.
