LAST TIME OUT: USC won a classic matchup with No. 17 UCLA at Dodger Stadium on Sunday, 3-2, thanks to an eighth inning game-winning home run by Lars Nootbaar. Dillon Paulson also homered earlier in the game to tie things up and Connor Lunn picked up the win on the mound. A Blake Sabol triple led to him scoring the game-tying run in the seventh inning on a Jamal O'Guinn single.
SERIES VS. LMU: Since the teams first played back in 1922, the Trojans own a 132-25-1 lead in the all-time series. USC won the matchup between the teams earlier this year, 3-2 at Dedeaux Field on Feb. 27.
SERIES VS. UTAH: The Trojans lead the all-time series 18-9 since the teams first played back in 1951.
ON THE DEFENSIVE: The Trojans lead the nation with a .996 fielding percentage. USC has just two errors in 13 games this season.
LONGRIE VS. ARKANSAS: Quentin Longrie picked up one of the biggest wins of his career and the biggest road win of the season for the Trojans when he shut down then-No. 5 Arkansas in front of a record 13,472 in attendance at Baum Stadium on March 3. Longrie tossed 7.1 innings, scattering eight hits and giving up just one run in a 3-1 victory.
WALK ON: Lars Nootbaar has worked 17 walks in 13 games so far, leading the Pac-12 in base-on-balls and sitting 12th in the country. Dillon Paulson has also worked 14 walks this year, putting him 50th in the country and fourth in the Pac-12 in that category. Paulson owns a .491 on-base percentage, highest on the team among players with at least 10 games played.
KEEP WALKING: The Trojans worked a 10-walk inning in their series opener night against Villanova (2/23), a total that is tied for the second most walks ever worked by a team in a single inning. The only total higher on the list came from TCU (11) exactly 20 years to the day (2/23/98) from Friday's game.
FRESH FACES: Currently leading the Trojans at the plate are a trio of new faces to the roster, with freshman Ben Ramirez hitting .385 in somewhat limited playing time so far, junior transfer Chase Bushor hitting .361 in 12 games played and freshman Jamal O'Guinn hitting .292 in 11 games played. Bushor's 13 hits and .528 slugging percentage are both second on the team.
COLLEGIATE DEBUTS: Eight Trojans have made collegiate debuts so far this season; Ben Ramirez, Kyle Hurt, John Beller, Brian Gursky, Jamal O'Guinn, Trevor Halsema, Isaac Esqueda and Riley Lamb.
STAT QUICK HITS:
DODGER STADIUM CLASSIC: USC once again played in the Dodger Stadium College Baseball Classic this year, getting a 3-2 win over UCLA on March 11 in Chavez Ravine. Leading up to the final at Dodger Stadium, the Trojans lost to TCU, 10-1, on March 9 and had their game against Vanderbilt rained out on March 10. TCU and Vanderbilt will played at Dodger Stadium prior to the Trojans and Bruins, with Vanderbilt picking up a 7-4 win.
THE ROAD AHEAD: USC hits the road against UC Irvine and Stanford next week.
CELEBRATE THE 8'S: 2018 marks a special anniversary year, with the Trojans having five championship milestones to celebrate. The USC program won NCAA College World Series titles in 1948, 1958, 1968, 1978 and 1998. USC is the only school that can boast such a feat, with the five titles part of the Trojans' NCAA best 12 overall championships. The program will be celebrating all five of the milestones at a game later in the season and will have content from each one over the course of the year.
