USC Looks To Bounce Back Against Stetson Wednesday At Galen

The USC Trojans (1-1) will host the Stetson Hatters (1-1) at the Galen Center on Nov. 14 at 7.p.m.
USC FALLS TO VANDERBILT - In a tight game which featured 11 lead changes, USC lost to Vanderbilt 82-78 on Nov. 11 at the Galen Center. Despite Vanderbilt leading for nearly 31 minutes, USC took a 69-67 lead with 3:11 remaining only to have the Commodores respond with a 6-0 run to take the lead for good. After a Saben Lee layup tied the game, USC was called for six fouls in the final 2:30 of the game and Vandy made 11 of its 12 FT attempts to clinch it, after making 8 of its first 18 attempts from the line. Nick Rakocevic had a robust double-double with 19 points and 18 rebounds to lead USC. Derryck Thornton added 17 points. Kevin Porter Jr. had 14 points, 2 blocks and 2 assists before fouling out. USC held Vanderbilt to 38.0 percent shooting, but struggled itself to 39.5 percent shooting, including 21.1 percent from 3-point range.
BREAKING DOWN STETSON - The Stetson Hatters (1-1) from DeLand, Fla. are coming off a 83-70 loss at Missouri State on Nov. 11. Stetson began the season by defeating Johnson U-Florida 116-66 on Nov. 7. Junior Ricardo Lynch has come off the bench the first two games to lead the Hatters with 16.5 points per game. Stetson has 12 players averaging between 11 and 23 minutes played per game. Stetson went 12-20 last season and returns seven lettermen from that team. This is the first meeting between the two schools.
TROJANS TO PLAY AT THE NABC HALL OF FAME CLASSIC - USC will be playing in the NABC Hall of Fame Classic in Kansas City, Mo. from Nov. 19-20. USC's first-round opponent will by Texas Tech on Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN2. Texas Tech went 27-10 last season and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight before falling to eventual champion Villanova. The all-time series between USC and Texas Tech is tied at 1-1, with the Red Raiders winning the last meeting 63-59 in 1984. Texas Tech is 2-0 this season with wins over Incarnate Word (87-37) and Mississippi Valley St. (84-52) and will play Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 13 before facing USC. The Trojans' second-round game will be against either Nebraska or Missouri State, who also play each other on Nov. 19. Former Trojan great Paul Westphal will be inducted into the NABC Hall of Fame on Nov. 18.
THE WINNING WAYS - USC had 71 wins during the past three seasons, the winningest three-season stretch in school history.
THE MAGIC MARKER - With the 83-62 win over Robert Morris on Nov. 6, USC has now won 32 consecutive games in which it allows 70 points or less.
GET TO KNOW ME - Freshman guard Kevin Porter Jr. scored 15 points in his collegiate debut on Nov. 6 vs. RMU, the most points by a Trojan freshman since Jordan McLaughlin scored 19 points in his first game in 2014. He added 14 points vs. Vanderbilt on Nov. 11 before fouling out. Porter Jr. is second on the team with a 14.5 scoring average and has made 68.8 percent of his field goal attempts (11-for-16), including 60 percent from three-point range (3-for-5).
RAKOCEVIC DOUBLING UP - Junior forward Nick Rakocevic scored 18 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in the opener vs. RMU on Nov. 6 and then scored 19 points and had 18 rebounds vs. Vanderbilt on Nov. 11 for his sixth and seventh career double-doubles. Dating back to the last two games of last season, Rakocevic has four consecutive double-doubles and has averaged 18.0 points (72 total) and 15.8 rebounds (63 total) in those games.
O'BANNON HAS SURGERY - Sophomore guard Charles "Chuck" O'Bannon Jr. had surgery to repair a broken left pinky finger on Nov. 13 and expected to miss a month of action. He injured his finger in practice on Nov. 9. O'Bannon played 10 minutes in USC's opener on Nov. 6 vs. RMU.
