Hometown hero Tina Thompson will be back in Los Angeles today as the Trojan great plays out her final season in the WNBA. An All-American at USC, the 1997 grad stands No. 5 all-time in career scoring and rebounding at USC.
She'd go on to win two Olympic gold medals and four WNBA championships, teaming up with fellow USC alum and current USC head coach Cynthia Cooper-Dyke for those four titles with the Houston Comets from 1997-2000.
Thompson now is the lone player remaining from the WNBA's inaugural season in 1997 as she plays in her second season with the Storm. In her final year in the league, Thompson plans to retire at the end of the season, holding the WNBA records in career scoring and games played.
Thompson and the Storm take on the Los Angeles Sparks today (July 25) at 12:30 p.m. at Staples Center.
