WESTCHESTER, CALIF. -- The No. 3 USC women's water polo team took control in a whistle-filled game at No. 6 Loyola Marymount and pushed out to a 13-8 win over the host Lions on Saturday afternoon. USC's Joelle Bekhazi scored four goals in the victory to lead eight Trojan scorers on the day. With their fifth straight win, the Women of Troy improve to 14-3 overall.
There were a whopping 22 total exclusions in the game, and the Trojan defense was able to turn away half of LMU's 14 power play opportunities. USC and LMU played another tight first period, but the Trojans would take over in the second to hold a 7-3 halftime advantage with help from a pair of goals each from Bekhazi and Jancso.
In the third frame, USC expanded its lead out to 9-3 with Jancso's third of the day and one from Nadia Dan, although LMU would answer back with a pair to make it a 10-5 USC lead going into the fourth. The Lions would get no closer than a four-goal margin in making it 11-7 with six minutes remaining, but back-to-back Trojan goals from Nicolina McCall and Kaleigh Gilchrist padded the USC lead, and the Trojans would lock down a 13-8 final.
USC's next action brings Hartwick to town on Wednesday (March 30) at 5 p.m. at McDonald's Swim Stadium.
