LOS ANGELES - Sophomore guard Erin Buescher scored a game-high 25 points and helped lead the UC Santa Barbara women's basketball team back from a 14-point first-half deficit and a 75-65 win over USC on Tuesday night at the Sports Arena.
USC, which was led by freshman guard Tiffany Elmore's 19 points, closed out its non-conference season with a 4-5 record. UC Santa Barbara improved to 7-3.
USC senior guard Kristin Clark hit a three-pointer with 10:38 to play in the first half to give the Women of Troy a 29-15 lead. But the Gauchos rallied back to take a 41-34 lead at the break.
The Women of Troy changed the game's momentum early in the second half and grabbed a 50-46 lead with 12:25 to play on a lay-up by senior center Adrain Williams. The Gauchos came right back, however, and took the lead for good at 10:27, 54-52, on a Buescher jumper. The final 10-point margin equaled UC Santa Barbara's biggest of the game.
Clark, who had 16 points for USC, made one three-pointer and tied the school career record of 110 set by Tammy Story. Williams also added 13 points.
The Gauchos also got 12 points each from junior guard Stacy Clinesmith and junior forward Kristi Rohr.
USC opens up Pacific-10 Conference play this weekend at the Arizona schools.
