Women of Troy Fall to Arizona State, 70-58

LOS ANGELES - Freshman guard Tiffany Elmore scored a game-high 15 points and had five rebounds and led three Women of Troy in double figures as the USC women's basketball team fell to Arizona State, 70-58, in the Pacific-10 Conference finale for both teams, Saturday night in front of 672 at the Lyon Center.
With the loss, the Women of Troy finished the 1998-99 season 7-20 overall and 3-15 in the Pac-10. The Sun Devils improved to 12-15, 6-12 and end an 11-game losing streak to USC dating back to March 11, 1993, a 64-55 victory.
The Women of Troy outscored Arizona State in the second half, 41-37, but could not overcome a dismal first half that saw them score a season-low 17 points on 18 percent shooting (5-for-28).
In a messy game that saw both teams combine for 41 fouls and 46 turnovers, the Sun Devil defense held USC to just two points in the first 6:00 of the game en route to an early 9-2 lead. The Women of Troy got as close as eight points with 8:01 remaining, but ASU pulled away with a 10-0 run and went into the locker room with a 33-17 halftime lead.
The second half saw the USC offense come alive scoring the first bucket of the period before the Sun Devils went on an 11-0 to build a 44-19 lead and they would never look back.
Junior forward Tiffany Washington scored 14 points while senior center Adrain Williams added 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds in the losing effort.
For Arizona State, junior center Rachel Holt had 14 points to lead three other Sun Devils in double figures. Sophomore guard Natalie Tucker had 13 points while junior guard Kitch Kitchen threw in 12 points on the night. Freshman forward Theresa Jantzen had a game-high eight rebounds to go with her seven points.
