Los Angeles, Calif. -- It may be football season, but in gymnasiums and arenas across the nation, basketball coaches of all levels are preparing their teams for the upcoming season. Nike and the Women?s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) are ready to help coaches get ready for the upcoming campaign by hosting a one-day Coaching Clinic.
Saturday, October 16, at the Lyon Center on the campus of the University of Southern California, USC head women?s basketball coach Chris Gobrecht will be the featured speaker during the Nike/WBCA Coaching Clinic. Julie Rousseau (former Los Angeles Sparks coach) and Dorothy Gaters, head girl?s basketball coach at Marshall High School (Chicago, Ill.) will serve as the Nike/WBCA lead clinicians.
The clinic runs from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., with doors opening at 8:00 a.m. Gobrecht will speak to the coaches in attendance at approximately 1:30 p.m.
The Women?s Basketball Coaches Association is extremely pleased to once again team-up with Nike to host what we know will be an outstanding grassroots clinic. These clinics give coaches the opportunity to sharpen their skills and discuss Xs and Os of basketball with their colleagues,? said WBCA Executive Director Beth Bass.
Founded in 1981, the mission of the Women?s Basketball Coaches Association is to promote women?s basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport of women?s basketball and to foster and promote the development of the game in all of its aspects as an amateur sport for women and girls.
Saturday also marks the first official day of practice for 1999-2000 USC women's basketball. The practice will run from 3 - 6 p.m and is open to all coaches and media. Please contact Vicky Hammond (213) 740-8480 at the USC Sports Information Department for more details.
