BREAKDOWN:
Roschon Prince is a 6-foot-6, 210-pound freshman forward who is expected to make an immediate impact on the program. He is known as an aggressive scorer and a tough defender. He was named the 2013 Gatorade High School Player of the Year for California.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Prince was rated as the 17th-best small forward and the No. 92nd player overall in the 2013 class by Rivals.com. Prince averaged 20.3 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Prince made 193 of 280 free throw attempts to rank 35th nationally in makes according to Max Preps. Scored 20 or more points in half of Poly[apos]s games with a season high of 31 points vs. Cabrillo on Dec. 10. He averaged 25.0 points over Poly[apos]s final eight games. Posted seven double-doubles with a high of 13 rebounds (24 points) vs. Westchester on Dec. 1. Prince helped lead the Jackrabbits to the regional semifinals where they fell to Mater Dei, despite 25 points from Prince. He led Long Beach Poly to a 28-4 record and a No. 20 national ranking in the Max Preps Xcellent 25 list. Was named the 2013 Gatorade High School Player of the Year for California, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court, distinguishes each athlete as their state[apos]s best high school boys basketball player. He was also named to the Max Prep Division I All-State first team. As a junior, he scored in double figures in each of Long Beach Poly[apos]s 32 games and recorded 10 double-doubles. According to Maxpreps.com, Prince led the nation in free throw attempts (384) and free throws made (264). Helped lead the Jackrabbits to the California State CIF championship game (54-52 loss to Bullard) and went for 21 and 10 in the heartbreaking defeat.
