BREAKDOWN: Â Fifth-year senior 6-9, 205-pound guard Drew Peterson enters the season having scored 1,263 career points, grabbed 693 rebounds and dished out 362 career assists. Â He transferred to USC from Rice in the summer of 2020 and was granted an NCAA relief waiver on Nov. 20 to be eligible to play immediately. He is a versatile playmaker and scorerwho is also a strong rebounder and good distributor of the ball. He has played in 131 games and made 119 career starts between USC and Rice.
2021-22: Peterson was one of two Trojans to start every game and was third on the team in scoring (12.4 ppg) and third in rebounding (6.2 rpg).  Peterson lead USC in assists (113) and minutes played (1123). He made 41.2 percent of his three-point shots (49-for-119) which ranked fourth among Pac-12 players.  Peterson was named first-team Pac-12 All-Conference. He averaged 16.1 points per game in USC’s final 10 contests.  He scored 17 points vs. Oregon State on Jan. 17 to surpass the 1,000 career points plateau (1,007 at that time). Made nine of 10 shots, including 5-for-5 from three-point range at Utah on Feb. 22...he tied for third on USC’s all-time list for makes with out a miss by a Trojan in a single game.  He set a career best with 13 rebounds at Arizona State on Feb. 3.  He scored a career-high 27 points, had 12 blocks and a career-best five blocks vs. UCLA on Feb. 12.  His second double-double of the season and ninth of his career came at Oregon State on Feb. 24 when he registered 23 points and 10 rebounds.  He hit the game-winning three-pointer in USC’s 70-69 win at Oregon...finished with 20 points and six rebounds.  Led USC with 17 points in its NCAA Tournament game vs. Miami on March 18...he scored 8 points in the final 44 seconds to force a tie, only to have Miami make 2 free throws with 3 seconds remaining for a 68-66 win.
2020-21: Peterson played in all 33 games (30 starts) and averaged 9.8 points and 5.0 rebounds. He was second on the team with 88 assists, third in steals with 21 and scored in double figures 18 times.  He scored 12 points, had 9 rebounds and 3 assists in his Trojan debut vs. CBU on Nov. 25. Led USC in scoring with 19 points and made a season-best 3 three-pointers in the win vs. BYU on Dec. 1. Registered his fifth career double-double and first with USC with 13 points and 11 rebounds vs. Utah on Jan. 2.  Matched a career high with 10 assists and added 8 rebounds and 7 points at Arizona on Jan. 7.  He scored 11 points, had 4 rebounds, 4 assists  and hit a key 3-pointer with 1:52 remaining in win at ASU on Jan. 9.  Took over in overtime scoring 8 of his 12 points in OT in USC’s 67-62 win vs. UC Riverside on Jan. 12.  He scored 15 points and had 11 rebounds vs. WSU on Jan. 16 for 2nd double-double of the season, 6th of career.  Scored 11 of his 15 points in the 2nd half of USC’s comeback win at Stanford on Feb. 2.  Did not start for the first time this season on Feb. 22 vs. Oregon and came off the bench to score 15 points and grab 11 rebounds for his 3rd double-double.  He led the Trojans at Utah on Feb. 27 with 19 points; Had 15 points, 9 rebounds & 6 assists vs. Stanford on March 3.  Scored 10 points on 4 of 8 shooting in win at UCLA on March 6.  He scored in double figures in two of USC’s four NCAA Tournament games, scoring 14 vs. Drake on March 20 and 13 vs. Gonzaga on March 30.
2019-20: Peterson averaged 11.1 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game for Rice as a sophomore. He made 31 starts and played in all 32 games for the Owls, leading the team in rebounds (209), assists (112) and steals (33). He was also third on the team in scoring and led the team in double-doubles (4). Peterson made 82.4 percent of his free throw attempts (75 of 91). He scored in double figures 16 times with a career-best 24 points vs. FIU on March 11 in the first round of the Conference USA Tournament. He was seventh in Conference USA in assists and assist to turnover ratio (1.3), eighth in defensive rebounds per game (4.9), 10th in rebounds and 12th in free throw percentage. He registered a career-high three blocks at Penn on Nov. 9. He scored 16 points and made a season-high four three-pointers (4 of 5) vs. Houston on Nov. 19. He also made four three-pointers and scored 16 points at Southern Miss on March 4. He recorded four double-digit rebound games, with a career-best 12 rebounds vs. Houston Baptist on Dec. 14 and at UTEP on Feb. 22. The game vs. Houston Baptist on Dec. 14 was his first career double-double (17 points/12 rebounds), and he also had double-doubles on Jan. 11 vs. FIU (13 points/11 rebounds), at UTEP on Feb. 22 (18 points/12 rebounds) and March 1 vs. Middle Tennessee (16 points/10 assists). With eight rebounds at Southern Miss on March 4, he became the first player in school history with 300 points, 200 rebounds and 100 assists in a season.
2018-19: He played in all 32 games and made 24 starts as a freshman. He averaged 5.0 points and 3.4 rebounds per game and scored in double figures six times. His collegiate debut was vs. Saint Leo on Nov. 6, scoring seven points and grabbing five rebounds.. He scored 10 points and had five rebounds at Houston on Nov. 14. He scored a season-best 18 points and made a career-high six three-pointers vs. Northwestern State on Nov. 17. He scored 12 points and had a season-best eight rebounds at UTRGV on Dec. 18. Posted a team-high 15 points on 6-for-6 shooting at Charlotte on March 6.
HIGH SCHOOL: Peterson graduated in 2018 from Libertyville High where he averaged 26.1 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists while shooting 49.5 percent from the field, 39.1 percent from three-point range and 81.8 percent from the free throw line. He helped lead Libertyville High to a 19-10 record and its first Class 4-A regional title since 2004 and its first conference title since 1998. He posted six 30-point games and recorded 10 double-doubles. He was named the Lake Country Player of the Year and the Pioneer Press Player of the Year. He was named First Team All-State by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) and the City/Suburban Hoops Report and Second Team All-State by the Chicago Tribune.
