The Trojans are in 24th place out of 30 teams in the team’s first national championship appearance in seven years.

CARLSBAD, Calif. — The USC Men's Golf Team completed its first round of play at the NCAA Championships, held at The Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. on Friday, May 29.

The Trojans were the first group to tee off at the par-72, 7,528-yard course and had to contend with wetter greens and steady winds that picked up on the back side. USC is in 24th place out of 30 teams with a 297 (+9) heading into the second round of stroke play. Only the top 15 teams and nine players from non-advancing teams make the first cut, which takes place after Sunday's third round.

Sophomore Jaden Dumdumaya started strong and rose up to the top two of the leaderboard with three birdies on the front side. However, he bogeyed Nos. 9 and 10 as he made the turn and he had just one birdie for the rest of the round. He is the only Trojan not over par at a 72 (E) and is tied for 35th.

Fellow sophomore Jack Buchanan is tied for 57th place after firing a 73 (+1) in round one. He had two birdies in the first four holes before finding trouble as he wrapped up the front side with three bogeys in the last four holes. Back-to-back birdies on Nos. 10 and 11 helped him lower his score after making the turn, but a bogey on the par-4 No. 15 pushed his score over par.

Playing in his final collegiate tournament, senior Antonio Safa fired a 74 (+2) on Friday. He had two bogeys and a birdie on the front side, then ran into trouble with a double-bogey on the par-4 No. 14. He birdied No. 18 to lower his score and move into a tie for 74th place.

Rounding out the Trojans, freshman Raghav Gulati is tied for 130th with a 78 (+6), while junior Nicolas Dominguez is tied for 153rd after firing an 82 (+10).

USC tees off tomorrow at 12:12 p.m. PT. The round will be broadcasted for free on Babygrande Golf. All pertinent information can be found on the men's golf team's schedule page on usctrojans.com.
