No. 12 USC Baseball Falls in the 10th at Nebraska, 8-7
April 17, 2026 | Baseball
LINCOLN, Neb. – The No. 12 USC baseball team fell on the road at Nebraska on Friday night, letting an early lead slip away as the Cornhuskers won 8-7 in the 10th inning.
Nebraska scored the tying run in the bottom of the ninth and walked it off in the 10th as USC falls to 30-9 overall on the season and 13-6 in Big Ten play. Nebraska moves to 29-9, 13-3.
USC led 5-0 early and 7-2 heading into the eighth, but the Cornhuskers scored three in the eighth and two in the ninth to force extra innings. A bunt single and a throwing error allowed the winning run to score in the 10th.
Despite the loss, Mason Edwards had another dominant outing on the mound, striking out 12 batters and walking none as he held the Cornhuskers to just two runs in his seven innings of work. Nebraska wasn't able to scratch anything across against the Trojan ace until the sixth inning.
Edwards did have to work out of a bases-loaded jam in the third, striking out the Cornhuskers' No. 3 and 4 hitters to strand all three runners. The junior lefty was also helped out by an inning-ending double play with runners on the corners in the second.
In his 10th start of the year, Edwards finished his outing with his 12th strikeout of the game to end the seventh, marking the eighth time this season he has posted double digit strikeouts. Edwards surpassed the 100 strikeout mark for the season in the contest, becoming the first USC pitcher to strike out 100 batters in a season since Ian Kennedy in 2006. He leads the NCAA with 107 strikeouts.
The Trojan offense went to work early, putting up runs in each of the first three innings to grab a quick 5-0 advantage. Isaac Cadena hit a solo-shot in the first, and then Jack Basseer had a run-scoring double and Will Stickney a sacrifice fly in both the second and third innings.
Kevin Takeuchi singled in two runs in the seventh after Nebraska scored its first two runs in the sixth to make it a 7-2 ballgame.
