Trojans wrap up regular season against familiar foes.
LOS ANGELES — The No. 20 USC men's tennis team hits the road for its final regular-season trip this weekend, traveling to face Washington on Friday at 4 p.m. before closing out the swing at Oregon on Sunday at 11 a.m.
The Trojans (16-6 overall, 8-3 Big Ten) enter the weekend with momentum after a statement 4-1 upset of No. 14 Illinois at Marks Stadium. Highlighting USC's recent surge, Branko Djuric was named Big Ten Player of the Week on April 15, while also earning his first national singles ranking at No. 107.
USC continues to be anchored by a balanced lineup, with Max Exsted (No. 67 - career high), Nate Trouve (No. 74), and Branko Djuric (No. 107) all ranked in singles. In doubles, Exsted and Trouve check in at No. 86 nationally and remain undefeated in Big Ten play, providing a reliable point at the top of the lineup.
The Trojans will open the trip in Seattle against a Washington squad that enters at 8-15 overall following a five-match losing streak. The Huskies most recently fell 4-0 to top-ranked Ohio State and feature the No. 46 doubles pair of Soham Purohit and Brett Pearson. Despite Washington's struggles this season, USC will look to stay sharp as it holds a commanding 36-7 advantage in the all-time series.
The Trojans then head to Eugene to take on Oregon on Sunday. The Ducks owns a 14-8 record and are coming off a 4-2 win over Penn State. Oregon is led by No. 113 Vlad Breazu in singles and the No. 49 doubles team of Pierre Mouesca and Matthew Burton. The Ducks will host UCLA on Friday before facing USC on Sunday. Historically, the Trojans have dominated the series, holding a 32-1 edge.
With the postseason approaching, the Trojans will look to carry their recent success on the road and solidify their positioning in the Big Ten standings with two key conference matchups still hanging in the balance.Â
