The Trojans got three goals from Alex May in a loss to the Wolverines
LOS ANGELES – The USC lacrosse team (6-4, 0-2 Big Ten) lost, 15-11, to seventh-ranked Michigan (6-2, 1-0) at Rawlinson Stadium on Sunday, March 15.

- So. midfielder Alex May recorded her second hat trick and led USC with three goals and an assist to total four pointsÂ
- Jr. attacker Reese Robinson had three points (2g, 1a) and picked up a ground ball to go with a caused turnover.
- Jr. attacker Emma Bunting scored a pair of goals, grabbed a draw control, and caused a turnover.
- Jr. midfielder Anna Regan had a team-high three draw controls, scored a goal, and picked up a ground ball.
- So. defender Sophie Gangemi caused four turnovers and snagged four ground balls.
- So. attacker Kaylee Fravert scored a goal, picked up a pair of ground balls, and caused a turnover.
- So. defender Sophia DeJarnette raked in a pair of draw controls, caused two turnovers, and picked up a ground ball.
- Redshirt Jr. midfielder Hollis Mulry scored a goal and picked up two ground balls to go with a pair of caused turnovers.
- In goal, Jr. Annie Shields and So. Ellie Thomas each recorded three saves. Thomas took the loss as the starting goalie.
- For the Wolverines, Calli Norris scored four goals and had a pair of assists for six points. Emma Burke led all players with 13 draw controls. Ava Class had three goals, and Emma Bradbury had three goals.
- Michigan had its way in the center circle to the tune of a 22-6 advantage in draw controls, which included 8-0 in the third quarter when the Wolverines built their largest lead. U-M took more shots (26-23), but USC maintained a solid 19-12 edge in ground balls and were credited with 14 caused turnovers on the Wolverines' 15 total giveaways.
- May went to cage unassisted and scored the game's opening goal at 12:56 in the first quarter but Michigan answered back with a three-goal burst over the course of just 90 seconds to claim a 3-1 lead. The Trojans weren't done as Bunting, Regan, and Robinson scored consecutive goals to put the Trojans, 4-3, at the end of the opening frame.
- May and Bunting scored one each to open the second quarter and extended the USC run to five unanswered goals for a 6-3 lead. The Wolverines were undeterred as Class logged her hat trick through the belly of the second and then Kassidy Isaacson scored with 2:53 left to halftime to pull Michigan into a six-all tie at the break.
- Out of the break, U-M pushed its run to 6-0 for a 9-6 lead. Fravert took a feed from Robinson to end the Michigan burst and kept the Trojans within two goals at 9-7. Norris spurred the Wolverines with three straight goals to make it a 6-1 third quarter for Michigan, which took a five-goal lead into the fourth quarter, 12-7.
- May and Mulry found the back of the cage early in the fourth to draw the Trojans within three, but Norris racked her fourth goal at 11:41 to give Michigan another four-goal lead at 13-9. Robinson scored unassisted and then Hannah Barron took a pass from May to score to bring the Trojans two goals from a tie with 2:48 to play. The Wolverines won the next two draws and scored goals once at 1:38 and again with 41 seconds left on the clock to cement the 15-11 win.
- USC heads to the East Coast where it is 23-24 all-time and meets eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins (8-1, 1-0 Big Ten) on Thursday (March 19) at Homewood Field in Baltimore, Md. The Trojans and the Blue Jays are set for first draw at 4 p.m. ET (1 p.m. PT). USC then heads to College Park, Md., to face third-ranked Maryland (7-0, 0-0) on Sunday (March 22) at 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT at the Terrapins' Lacrosse Complex. Both games will be shown live on Big Ten Plus streams.Â
- USC fell to 3-4 all-time against Michigan and has lost each of the last four meetings.
- The Trojans dropped to 4-3 at home on Rawlinson Stadium grass.
- USC moved to 1-4 against ranked opponents this season (32-52 all-time) and to 12-24 against teams ranked in the top 10.
