Trojans to launch national search for next head coach
LOS ANGELES – USC and Lindsey Munday are parting ways after 14 seasons, the University announced Monday, May 18. A national search for the program's next head coach will begin immediately.
Â
Munday—hired in January 2011—was the founding head coach of USC lacrosse and helped launch the program as a varsity sport. Over 14 seasons, she compiled a 169-79 overall record, guided the Women of Troy to two Pac-12 championships (2019, '23), back-to-back MPSF regular-season and tournament titles in 2016 and 2017, and took the program to six NCAA tournaments including back-to-back quarterfinal appearances in 2016 and 2017. The Trojans finished 8-9 (1-7 Big Ten) in 2026 and were 10-7 (3-5 Big Ten) in 2025.Â
Â
"After thoughtful conversations, we mutually agreed this is the right time for new leadership and a new direction for USC Women's Lacrosse," said Charles Griffin Cale Director of Athletics Jen Cohen. "We are grateful to Lindsey for her 14 years of service to USC and for all of her work and dedication to this program. We wish her every continued success, and we look forward to finding the right coach to take our program forward."
Â
Munday is a two-time Pac-12 Coach of the Year (2019, '23), a two-time MPSF Coach of the Year (2015, '16), the 2016 IWLCA West/Midwest Coach of the Year, and the 2016 Inside Lacrosse National Coach of the Year. Lacrosse Magazine named her its Person of the Year in 2013. As a player at Northwestern, she won two NCAA championships (2005, '06) and was a two-time first-team All-American. Most recently, she led Team USA to gold at the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China, as the first-ever head coach of the U.S. Women's Lacrosse Sixes team.
Â
"I am grateful for my 15 years at the University of Southern California," said Munday. "I want to thank Pat Haden and Mark Jackson who hired me to build lacrosse on the West Coast. I also want to thank Jen Cohen for her current leadership.
Â
"To be able to start a program is incredibly special and something I will always hold close to my heart. To the players I had the privilege to coach, I am honored you chose USC, and I am lucky to know you all. Although I am moving on, I will always root for USC and am thankful for my time there. I am excited about my future and as always, Fight On!"
Â
The Trojans (8-9 overall, 1-7 Big Ten) finished the regular season eighth in the Big Ten standings and did not advance to the conference tournament. USC earned four home wins in the new Rawlinson Stadium including a 9-8 victory over a 24th-ranked Brown (Feb. 15). The Trojans also collected four wins on the road, which included a 15-10 decision at Oregon to conclude the season. USC had one of the toughest schedules in the nation and faced eight ranked opponents including three in a row ranked in the top 10.
