Trojans to face Cal on Saturday, Stanford on Sunday.
LOS ANGELES – No. 22 USC men's tennis heads back to Northern California this weekend for a pair of ranked road tests, opening with a rematch against no. 23 California on Saturday, Jan. 31, before facing No. 3 Stanford on Sunday, Feb. 1.
The Trojans enter the weekend with a 3-2 overall record after earning a statement 4-1 victory over then-No. 15 Cal on Friday, Jan. 24, during the consolation match of ITA Kickoff Weekend at the Hellman Tennis Complex. The win marked USC's third of the season and showcased the squad's ability to close out matches against top 15 competition. USC and Cal will meet again Saturday at 10 a.m. PT at the same venue in Berkeley.
California comes into the rematch ranked No. 23 nationally with a 4-2 overall record. While the Golden Bears are unranked in singles, their doubles tandem of Timofey Stepanov and Tiago Silva sits at No. 55 nationally, providing a key challenge at the top of the lineup.
USC will then travel to Palo Alto to face No. 3 Stanford on Sunday at 12 p.m. PT at the Taube Family Tennis Center. The Cardinal enter the weekend unbeaten at 4-0 and will take on UCLA on Saturday prior to Sunday's matchup. Stanford features multiple ranked players, including Alex Chang (#67) and Nicholas Godsick (#78) in singles, along with two nationally ranked doubles teams in Godsick and Hudson Rivera (#39) and Chang and Alexander Razeghi (#40).
The Bay Area swing presents an early-season measuring stick for the Trojans as they look ahead to Big Ten play and look to build momentum against some of the nation's top programs.
